Site Has Tons of Traffic but Makes No Money?

I have a blog that gets tons of traffic from the search engines, about 8,000 visitors a month actually and I hardly make anything from the traffic.

Are you looking to make adsense money? It seems to me you are better off with products that fill the needs of those people dating like keep the spark in your relationship, spice up your relationship, valentines day products etc. The adsense may be targeting getting a date and may not be converting. I am no expert, but these are some thoughts for you. Good luck. I wish I had the 8,000 visitors per month problem.

If I had that kind of traffic, I'd figure out what I was doing wrong and fix it! Maybe you need to post your URL and let people look and give their thoughts. Could be lots of things. What do people in this niche buy, and what are you selling? Are you building a list and sending content? Is you blog organization and/or looks a problem? Is your content good? Do people come back?

  • 8 k visitors :O imagine if you could convert 1.25% percent of those visitors on a monthly basis into buyers of a product in the dating niche worth 30$.

Thats 100 people buying a product, which equates to $3000.

Then 2.5% into buyers, 200 people and $6000.

Then 5% and then 10% and then repeated sales from people on your list.

Then rinse and repeat for another niche site.

You have potential with that amount of visitors, learn to monetize it properly.

The higher the amount of traffic, the more the numbers work in your favor, but the more you work on improving the conversion rate, the more sales you'll make.

    Jay.

WOW..what a great problem to have...!!!

You are opposite of the 98% of the others in the internet business. They monetize, then seek traffic.

By all means, keep the traffic... Dont push them to adsense...

    I would recommend 2 things:

    1. Offer something free so you can get an Opt-in list going.
(If you resell your site, this will triple its value!)

    2. After giving away 2-3 things, sell something...(either Clickbank product, or PLR product)

    Viola... you monetize your site.

Continue with free stuff...and selling stuff.

If you are at a complete loss for what to sell... at least put a banner on your site and make some affiliate money for something related...but not overly competitive.

    Hope this helps...

You have to increase your Conversion with

    ►Web site structure...
    ►Your Offer...
    ►Your Benefits [their stucture]
►Do you have a unique sales position [Something that differentiates you from other dating sites]
►Do you know the market? Have you created
    a relationship with your prospects?

    These questions are very generic,
but I can pull out tons more questions like this
just cuz I don't know what your site looks like...

Give us something to critique... A lot of things
    can be wrong with it...

God knows there's money in the dating niche...

      Hi Amy,
Congrats on that traffic. And that niche.

      Here's my ideas...

If they are already in a relationship, you want to focus on stuff like

      Keeping the love alive
      Couples retreats
      Romantic vacations
      Thoughtful gifts
Have That "New Relationship Sex" Every Night (yeah, women AND men buy that)
How To Avoid Getting "Fat" and Happy
      Wholesale Jewlery
Super Steamy Seduction Secrets For Couples...

ok.. I cant think of any more right now...

Like SmartEntrepreneur said, keep the traffic, don't push them to Adsense.

Also consider using CPA offers on your site. CPA has many many offers in the dating niche and your visitors dont even need to pull out a credit card for you to earn commission.

But yes, you should be making more than that with traffic like that!

    Hi Amy,

I would recommend testing several products first before you
    do away with the site..

Try to find out what "clicks" with your crowd. Test several
products and several approach. Do you have an opt-in form
    in there..

Try to find an irresistible offer for your crowd.

Also why not create an ebook on how you managed to get
that much people per month and sell them YOU KNOW WHERE..

you already have a proof for a product..all that's left is writing
    about it..

    All the best,

With traffic like that you're apparently doing something right >

I agree with Ken above, CPA sounds perfect, whether you go with low-involvement or email/zip offers or the higher/free trial stuff.

Are you building a list? You should

You could always offer ad space to people in your niche, somewhere on your site for monthly fee's, and do the CPA thing at the same time! :p

If your site is not getting any conversions
Fix the conversions first then get your CPA on...

Cuz you will have waisted a lot of money
    with no conversions...

I am not really a "seller" per say... I figure that someone else could probably do more with it than me so I put it on Flippa Site for Sale: Dating Blog - 8,000 Unique Visitors a Month — Flippa
I like focusing mostly on Adsense and this just doesn't seem to be an Adsense type of blog for some reason.

Usually people put their sites up for
sale at the price of 10 times monthly Revenue...

    You're not gonna find buyers...

I'm sorry to say but the site looks Pretty Pretty
    Pretty Bad [Larry David Voice]

I don't know if you wanna keep it and
try to fix it up... You can actually make
    money with this baby...

    There's plenty of room for improvement;
Your traffic is not necessarily targeted-
I looked at your top keywords you are
    ranking for-

They are not really targeted for dating...

Untargeted traffic will leave your page...
I would assume most of the traffic is a
    bunch of lookie Lues...

    Your site is geared towards Freebie seekers;
cheap date ideas- well► That could work, but
not only is adsense your only source of
    monetisation-

    - But also you only place it in one spot!
I mean sure you post the adsense in between
blog posts but what about your side bar?

Your Opt-in and your adsense are crowding
one small area-► It's too much...

What do you value most? Your adsense or
your opt-ins? That's what you should put
    under the header-

    - And you can put the other on top of your Side
    Bar...

You Only have 1 CATEGORY- You could rank for
more Keywords with more Categories... This would
    be a fun little project!

72% of your prospects are female, and the
only thing that caters to them is the Header
If your site gets that many people with that
    kind of presentation-

    - 35% of your prospects make from $60K to
$100K- But you turned them into Freebie seekers...

You're Not selling anything- The only Offer on the
    page is the opt-in box...

You can offer ad-space to competitors (you get tons
of traffic. They will pay- Offer it) Maybe I'm giving away
    too much!

-But no, it kinda irritates me to see this site go to waste!!!

    - You could make a whole lot more than what
you are making! For sure! it would be a shame
    to sell it...

You have a little bit of back links, your pagerank
can be better- But all in all- THERE'S ROOM FOR
    IMPROVEMENT►

►YOu don't seem to wanna improve it... Hmmm
    :-(

I decided to put a CPA offer up instead of the Adsense. I am curious to see how it does.

Good luck with that. The next thing I'd do if it were my site is write my own ebook to sell.

    Great suggestions in this thread.

I second (or third) the opt-in idea with a free giveaway. Build up a list so you'll have several opportunities to sell to your visitors.

Put up a CPA offer to your website, look sis I had a similar problem like yours some years back, infact I had well over 10K people on my article website raking in PR3 but i discovered people were not really clicking on the adsense, so what did i do ... placed CPA offers... the result ... magic ..to cut the story short was making more than 1000 dollars a month and later sold the website for a record fee .. good luck

Build a list. Remember people who are interested in dating are not only interested in one thing. The people who are interested in dating can also be interested in how to propose, how to make more money to make their partners happy. People often think that just because someone found your site through a dating keyword means that's all you can ever market to them. Not true. People are interested and willing to buy lots of things. Find creative ways to incorporate different offers in your emails that have relevance to the list theme. Maybe direct them to your friends blog where she and her boyfriend have found a way to make a small side income. You can guess who owns the blog right?

Anyway, just build a list if they don't want your current offers and send them to offers that are wrapped up and themed creatively.

    Hey...dude..
Just see how many are the unique visitors and how many are returning visitors..??
And just see how much is the bounce rate ??

Then i can tell some thing ??

If returning visitors are less..and bounce rate is more than 60% then u have to offer some quality to the visitors so as to make them stay...!!

Just went to look at your site, here's an excerpt copied from the top comment on the top blog article: This is the best website I have found for broke college students. Not good. First rule of niches is Look for Buyers who spend money, then sell them a product similar to what they are already buying. I'd be trying to figure out more about my traffic, like who are my visitors? Cause I don't see how you can even make AdWords money from Broke College Students.
