Google TM... stole my database

Warriors,

I had recently sent 127,773
of my affiliates within my paydotcom
account an email asking my members
to update their contact info but
to send it to my gmail account.
In 1 week I had thousands of emails
with their updated contact info.

Here is what Google did, they suspended
my gmail account. When I asked them why
they do did not respond. Remember I have
asked for others to email their contact
info to me, but I did not contact anyone
this account.

My question is, has anyone else had this
same or similar experience with Google gmail?

Anyone know why they would do this?

Thanks,

Lance - Warrior2008

It's possible that some of your mailing list recipients were suspicious of a request to send their personal information to an unfamiliar gmail address and reported it to Google.

And Google does lock accounts if they detect "abnormal usage that may indicate that your account has been compromised" - I can imagine that suddenly receiving many thousands of emails with contact information could look that way.

Hopefully you downloaded all your messages onto your computer rather than just storing them online.

  • Why in the world are you trusting your business to a third party?

    Live and learn.

    Google is NOT your friend.

Google is a necessary evil for some tasks, but anything you can control yourself your should.

Hopefully others will learn from your mistake.

Yes, they really screwed me on that. The PDC system gets bogged down and it was important to have their real email and phone number. I should have put them through Aweber or something.

    Thanks also Nonny...

A suggestion I have is, you could have directed them to a webpage with an online form, and got them to submit their updated contact information there.

And used a service like logiforms, which will have neatly compiled all the information you required into a neat little database from all the submissions for you.

As pointed out getting large numbers of important e-mails to a free e-mail service is always risky.

You must be making bucketloads of money with that many affiliates! I hope you rectify your problem however.

Thanks oneplusone. Yes, I really should have. Darn!!! Lesson learned. Keeping these affiliates active is ongoing but they have been good over the last year. Very good!

Well they didn't screw you really.

You just used bad business management skills so it is really your own fault. I can't image what you were thinking getting your affiliates to respond to a gmail account that you do not use. It would look very suspicious to me as well.

I get pretty pieved off when people blame other companies for their own mistakes.

On the other side I do feel compassion towards to you as it is always a bitch when you think you are doing the right thing and it backfires.

Yes, tell me about it. Nothing I can't correct. It will just take a few more weeks to get them updating their info again.

Prime example of why you do not use free email for business... Why on earth people continue to do so when these services can shut down at any minute is way beyond me..

I always have and will always use my own email with my own server..
