Is Google Just a Gossip?

Hey War Forum Members,

I think it's time to 'hit the wasp nest with a stick' so to speak.

There is a ton of theories that float around regarding the topic of getting ranked well with the search engines.

I think it's time, as war room members, to dispel some of the bunk. Collectively we have quite a bit of brain matter floating around and experience to back up possible theories.

Personally, I've tried very hard to put some sense behind the theories and have found a couple of interesting things out.

Before I go into the details, here's my thoughts. Getting ranked is simply a popularity contest. If you keep this in mind, then much becomes clear. Google is not as smart as we all think, so, like a good gossip, Google has to listen to the chatter on the net to decypter what should and shouldn't be ranked.

So with saying that:
  1. Truly, don't believe everything you read about linkjuice. I may be very wrong here, but I've been working hard to create authority sites that bleed linkjuice like crazy. I try very hard to link to excellent other sites that I find about the same topics that I've been building my authority site on and it has definitely helped my cause. Here I'm using one way links and trackbacks.
  2. Trackbacks are worthless -Totally not true. Remember that this is a two way link. Now, this is not supposed to work, but I find exactly the opposite. If your site has good content on it, then it works very well.
  3. Backlinks are just about everything. I hate to say this, but I believe that backlinks are more important than any other exercise. You can normally gauge your daily visitor counts by the number of backlinks you have. Again, my opinion.
  4. Because backlinks are just about everything, avoid bad backlinks. Bad backlinks are backlinks to sites where your backlinks could dissappear.
  5. Duplicate content can be bad. But it can be good too. If you are creating good posts composed of multiple excerpts of information, it soon becomes original content again. Hence why I've personally found wordpress plugins that create posts on other sites like yahoo answers to be pretty useless, but other products that compose posts from multiple sources to be much better at getting ranked.
  6. One of the best sources of backlinks are well spun article directory submits. There's a caveat here though. If you use the same tools that everyone else uses, it becomes a footprint. Footprints bad - read 7.
  7. Because Google's algorithms are relatively simple, Google depends on finding backlink spammers through the use of footprint algorithms. When I've submitted to article sites using automated tools, I've had much less success then submitting on my schedule and in a random pattern to multiple sites.

So, there's some points to consider. I'd love to hear your opinions on these points and others you've discovered.

Cheers!

Frank
