hello, i'm monitoring SERP on my site after doing social bookmarking and directory submission. So far the result in my browser (google.com) is great.. it's already on the 1st page. i test it from indonesia (asia)

but when i access it through my VPS (usa), it result differently..

i don't compare between google.com vs google.co.id (google for indonesia).. but instead google.com vs google.com

but why the result is different ? how to test google.com based on US result ?

I have been doing some work with some new websites I want to sell.

Google seems to be experimenting right now, and it seems there is a split test going on.

Sometimes, I'll get the "normal" google page, especially in other browsers. But in firefox, the graphics are of a higher gloss.

I have also seen my sites be indexed and unindexed 4 times over the past week. As of now, they are back to being unindexed. These are new domains purchased within that time frame, so I know they are not sandboxed.

Theyre just doing something new, one day there it is on first page of google, next couple of hours, it's not even there. Nor is it indexed when i look up site:xxxxxxx.com

Who knows. Maybe they'll have it figured out soon.

I rarely test my sites or pages on Google.com

Most of the time I search on Google.us

IMO it's the biggest market so better look if I rank there..

    But that's just me

    All the best,

If you click your own link when you find it in search results Google will start showing that link to you higher and higher up in subsequent search results. When you're on a different computer there's no record of you having clicked your own link (or any other link) so you get different results.

Dennis is correct in that Google serps will be slightly different between users, your own search history as well as location does tend to produce different results. Clear the cookies or use firefox's private browse function and you should get a better idea.

Personalized search has made rank checking a huge pain. I have given it up almost entirely and use authoritylabs.com for all my sites and keywords. It works great PLUS runs once daily so it saves me from checking my rankings 20X every day!!

Every time you click a link it gets added to search wiki and will come up higher for you in the future. Makes SEOs feel like they are way better at their jobs than they really are!

To do rank checking from your browser- follow these steps:
      1. Use a different browser than your every day one. I use FF for most things, so I do rank checking in Safari.

      2. sign out of any google accounts

      3. Clear cookies

      4. go to Google.com and search for anything once.

      5. After that in the upper right corner there is a new item called web history. Click on that.

      6. Disable customizations based on search activity.

      7. You did it! Now Google will not personalize your search results based on your cookies or IP address.

At times the disable customization button indicates it will disable customizations for 30 minutes but I haven't had time to test all variables.

In any case personalized search is an interesting concept to explain to clients

Since Google is tired of changing the algorithm every week so no one can figure it out, and since Caffiene which is really just Hadoop with their own twist to it; they now use 37 algorithms simultaneously. Based loosely on Sharon Livingston's 37 personalities. Each algorithm returns the results each avatar (personality) would find most useful based in what avatar uses the IP accessing the site most often. Of course, they will continue to tweak each avatar's algorythym, but not as often or as much since optimizing for one personality's results will many times de-optimized for the others.

one possible reason is: the result comes from another data center, and your result set is populated to all data center yet.
