Hi

I'm trying to use twitter for my business, but I don't know any real techniques to use it properly.

How do you use twitter for IM purposes.

You'll have to buy a Social media course or Twitter course.
Or search through the forum for tips. Giving you all the information in one post will take too much time. Time is money.

From my experience, I didn't have any success with Twitter. Twitter is flooded with promotional stuff and I can't see a reason why would anyone click a link from Twitter. I never did.

As others have mentioned, there are number of published works on this subject which can help you, including ebooks and videos.

Here is an article which gives an overview of some of the tactics which are used by marketers to get traffic from Twitter:

My advice with this which would be the advice for just about everything is to become "hyper-focused" and learn everything you can possibly learn about marketing with twitter and block out everything else until you become an expert with that one area then move onto the next thing to dominate. Forget this multi-tasking crap...That just dilutes focus and effort.

Twitter is NOT a magic bullet and it is and will always be constantly evolving...

I'm not sure what niche or market you are in but I would say set up a separate Twitter account per niche with the niche keyword in the twitter display name...

Have a separate niche website or niche product page in the Bio info within the same niche or market as the Twitter profile on each twitter profile. Then use tons of FREE tools to get followers...Use twollo and the like to get targetd followers based on niche keywords..

List yourself in all the Twitter directories...

Set-up Twitter feeds and use clickbank RSS feeds to populate your Twitter streams with niche products that are related to the same niche that your twitter profile is, but don't over do it with the automated feeds...In fact every tweet shoul NOT have a link to a website IMHO...I find myself only Retweeting those tweets that have NO links in them...I like to retweet funny comedian quotes or those one line inspirational quotes... Retweeting is a Viral aspect of twitter..The more people that retweet you the more natural followers you will get following you

Solidly engage your twitter followers as best you can across all your profiles (there are tools that make this easier such as tweetdeck and such)..Reply to tweets you like RT tweets you like..spread the love...

Have one main Profile that is solidly YOU which you treat like your baby and only tweet quality tweets and truly engageyour followers. Encourage all your followers at your other niche themed twitter accounts to follow your main account and Ask for Retweets if you think you made an awesome tweet...

There are tons of paid tools that help you accelerate this process and I can not recommend any one tool since they all have their pros and cons...I have not found that one perfect Twitter application yet...If anyone has one and wants to give me a review copy I will gladly give my review and spread the love if it works well...

Anyway, there is not one perfect way to market on twitter, but I would reccommend getting, if you want to be an expert in this area, "HYPER FOCUSED" and learn everything you can so you can come back and teach all of us something...

        Hope this helps

I agree with a lot of what Gavin has said, but one thing I don't agree with is this bit about retweeting links. I post links everyday but I have yet to post affiliate links. I follow other people who also frequently post links from around the web and I do retweet some of them. The point should be that you need to post links of value, not just affiliate links.

I did not say I NEVER RT tweets with links...I just find myslef more often RTing quotes and funny sayings without links...I agree it is important to RT tweets that have links that offer value... The problem is sometimes certain profiles have nothing but tweets with links and most of them are some sort of affilliate link... I have been guilty of it myself.... I believe a balance should be achieved to get quality followers...

            Just my 2 cents

            Gavin

Personally, I'm trying out the organic method, you know just letting people follow me if they want to, I know it's not really quantity but I think the quality is what's important.

with twitter you basically gotta give a ton of stuff away before you even start making money. just like your list, you have to make them responsive or they will not click on your links.

Very true. You need to interact with them and gain trust.

So many people get Twitter totally wrong, even to this day, and they think they can just spam their links on every Tweet and expect to monetize it. The golden rule especially applies here - give first, and THEN you can expect to receive later. You have to give and engage your followers, and show them that you're a real person who actually responds to them like a live human (as opposed to a 'bot or automated software), and THEN you can expect to receive later. So many newbies I talk to want to know how they can immediately monetize Twitter right away, and this is totally the wrong mindset. You just have to get into the mindset of giving as much value as you can, almost to the point of giving without even expecting to receive anything in return, and if you do that you'll most definitely do well in Twitter and get lots of adoring and raving followers!

This much I know. I my primary concern is finding active followers to give information that is of value.
