When you send out your emails... are you just writing plain text with links or do you use some kind of template?

text email is the best. If you use html it may not come complete, and may be all messed up.

Text email with a link is your best option.

I usually go for plain text, but I'll be launching some campaigns shortly that I'll use HTML in. Remember, you have to do HTML if you want open statistics.

You can also let your subscribers choose whether they want plain text or html when they sign up and send out both kinds. Plain text is pretty much guaranteed to be able to be seen though.

I agree. Sometimes html could work though and your list would learn to like it and expect it. If you publish a newsletter you could do it in html and make it look newsletterish..

Plain text seems to get through the filters easier

I use both. Main reasons were listed above. I'd say in the complex text+html work better. Themost important thing for is that my e-mails achieved focused audience.

I think transparency is the key - if you send plain text, then they can see where they're going a lot easier than html - it's easier to track, and it means that you don't have to waste time worrying about how good it looks or silly things like that.

Through the autoresponder companies that I use, I use both plain text and an html template.

I use plain text, am very interested in what Kristi just said about split tests (the best way to find out). Have to admit I use the word free, freebie and others all the time and the spam score is always very low.

Recently I've noticed more marketers using HTML emails and formatting them to read better (bit like a sales page) which has bumped my curiousity.

    Test ... must try
