Use "Google" in Domain Name, Get Sued?

I got an email from an Internet marketer promoting something and in the process claimed that Google was on some massive rampage to sue people who had google in their domain names.

Has anyone seen any evidence of this?

Thanks in advance.

Absolutely it can happen if they decide to go after people. It's a trademarked name. It's a wonder all those google biz offers survived so long as they did, really.

actually yes... I recall seeing an article about this not to long ago. It actually happens with a lot of companies since a while back when it was deemed bad to use a companies trademark in your domain - part of the reason why google won't let you use trademarked company names in your adwords campaigns. (or the work Google in your ads)

You know... google has sooooooo many domains that they own - some you wouldn't even suspect like e17.org lol (plus a billion or so with the words google in them) And that's why I don't doubt at all that if you've got a domain with google in it you'd best be careful - because google has every right to sue you and take your domain...

Personally I say it's not worth the risk

Not just Google, by the way. Apple was recently in the headlines for taking domains as well. Any Trademarked name or company name can be seized and possibly result in a lawsuit.

One of the lines Allen Lundy's link mentions is "The scams worked by advertising that buyers could "make money from Google." The buyers purchased a "free" kit to teach them how to do this, paying a nominal fee and S&H."

Sure, I remember that one and sure it's about time Google went after them. But, that case wasn't about just simply using the word google in a domain name. That was a product scam.

But for them to just randomly seek every domain name with the word Google in it and line up thousands of lawsuits, including GoogleIsTheBest.com or whatever, seems way overkill.

A few months ago, I heard that Facebook will send you an email notice demanding you deactivate any domain name with facebook in it like yournameonfacebook.com. So, heck, I tried it and registered MartyOnFacebook.com and shorenuff, got the email. And, I promptly deactivated it.

But, the rumor is that Google is just outright "lining up lawsuits" and bypassing the pleasant request by email. That's more what I'm looking for is proof of that.

Okay, so, I see it coming..."Why do I want to know?"

Because about 5 years ago I wrote a mildly successful manual called Getting Brutal with Google that started off as just basic seo stuff for my own clients. It worked so well that I registered BrutalWithGoogle.com and I promoted it at workshops mainly...and of course through some seo of my own. I used to update it quarterly but took it off my site last summer because it needs to be greatly expanded now and am wondering if I should even bother doing the rewrite or just forget it. I mean, I can call it "Getting Brutal with Xshnolooligoo" I guess and just expect people to have a clue what it's about, but I do find it kind of ironic that all this suing is going on and I haven't heard a peep from Google about my manual over the years.

Does this really shock anyone? Google is a trademarked name. They have every right to sue.

It's actually a good thing we're seeing as the big G is cleaning up sites that may give them a bad reputation.
