Any reason for a slump?

My primary website has been working nearly 4 years now. So I know pretty well where the ups and downs in my market are...

But right now it should be all up. November through February is always my best time of year. But suddenly I've gone from breaking sales records last week to nearly flatlining this week. From Friday of last week it's like the market fell off a cliff.

Since I'm based outside the U.S. (but 95% of my market is there) I don't often catch news and trends very quickly. Is there anything happening that could explain this? Anybody else experiencing this?

By the way, I'm in the natural health field, which is why the holidays and early in the new year is usually a good time for me.

I am in exactly the same situation you are.

Outside the US, same niche areas mostly, sales mediocre at best for what should be a boom time.

I am looking at new ways of doing things in case the "old" way simply does not work anymore. I am surprised however it should be this bad.

It could just be that people are still recovering from the spend at Christmas, with the world wide economic scares of last year I think people are still being very careful with their money and who can blame them.

Think it depends on the niches you are in, I am doing better than ever this month, in two totally unrelated niches.

I am in a similar niche and have noticed a significant decrease in sales the last 7 days or so... Put it down to a swings and roundabout thing and have been through similar periods. This one seems to be lasting a little longer than usual.

DavidO - I presume you've checked obvious things like whether your site has been pushed off the first page of Google by a competitor?

Is your traffic the same and just your sales have fallen or has your traffic fallen too?

cant speak for DavidO but I have seen an increase in traffic via adwords but sales have plummeted.

DavidO, I buy tons of the stuff. There is probably a far better explanation than the usual newbie resort of:

    the market collapsed

People are buying - but from others, and you need to know why. Are you certain you know where your paying traffic comes from?

Of course, if you use Adwords, it could simply be Ad blindness, or a product popularity shift...

Even if this a quiet month and overall niche sales are down, that is no reason for your sales to suffer, you simply need to market better than the competition.

I think it's crucial that you see if your traffic has decreased significantly. The most recent google update may have shifted you down?

You could try striking up small talk with your local health store, to see if they feel the industry has experienced a decline.

I am not seeing such a slump, I am not in niche or affiliate business either. I have taken my Internet Education training offline and providing it to retail and other self employed people who want to use the Internet to get clients or make money.
