Advice on a Footer Ad Please

I'm looking for opinions on the footer ad I just put on this blog.

HtruO Water Blog

Is it too well blended? Should I change the color of the text?

Also, what do you think about the actual pop up?

Also, I have checked in Safari and Firefox - but if you are on a different browser I'd appreciate if you can tell me if it is jumbled looking or anything.

Thanks,

Jill

It's too inconspicuous as it is. I had to search for it, knowing it was there, otherwise it would have passed unnoticed.

I find footer ads to be effective but that is by using something bolder, along these lines (not an affiliate link):

I was all set to buy that today, but this site is hosted on godaddy, and it will not work because there is no php5 for the ioncube loader.

Everything looks good but I didn't get a popup with IE? I have to agree that I think the footer ad looks good but will likely not be very effective. It's too easily overlooked for a call to action.

I can change the colors on the ad, make the text bigger, or just change the text color to pop more.

I didn't want it to be too obtrusive but maybe I did too a job of that. lol

I thought it looks good - noticeable without being mega-intrusive (although that might defeat the purpose). Bolding the text might make it stand out a little bit more. I couldn't see the x button to close off the pop-up at first - I was expecting it to be on the main section. That might annoy some people (or it may make them sign up!). Did you know the image background colours are showing if you hover over them?

Yeah, I noticed that earlier and forgot. I'm not sure where/how to fix that.

        are you using instant slide?

If not look into it. its the best.

also in my crazy tests I find that when you try to blend
in the slide the conversions are way to low...

If you make the ad slide up and make it different then the blog
or site, you will see an increase in ctr ...

        hope this helps...

No, I'm using WP Footer Ad Pro.

          It is a plugin.

I am already combating major issues with the blogs template so I'm hesitant to go putzing into the code too much. For instance, I tried to add some things into the theme already and it screws up the entire template.

I was given these issues (I would have done things differently)so not much I can do but work around them for now.

            Joey,

Are you talking about this site?

            Instant SlideUp

Is that also reliant on creating a database and using php5?

just delete that template and reupload it. and as for that plugin, thats whats probably giving you all the trouble.

Here's a tip. create a dummy blog. install everything you have on your main blog.
when you do modifications do it on your dummy blog first. if all goes good then
proceed to modify your main blog.

try instant slide up. should work well...

Ha, easier said than done. That template matches perfectly with the main site which thousands of dollars were spent to make so I don't think kicking the template off is a great idea at the moment.

I don't have the files used to make it, and I don't know how to pull them off the host.

The plugin is not an issue. I just got it today and it is working fine.

I maybe biased but I believe Ultimate Footer Adâ„¢ - UltimateFooterAd.com is far superior to Instant Slideup. UFA has a bunch of features not found in ISU, like countdown timer, id tracking, ad rotating etc, aswell as 72 premium quality templates (animated gif and static png)

Plus ISU was $67 ($20 more than UFA). I've just checked and it's now moved to a £14.95 a month recurring system.

In the IE everything looks nice, but I didn't see pop-up. I like that the color of the footer doesn't break my eyes, but it doesn't attract my attention. I agree that footer has to much text for proposal. I would leave one phrase.

Did you click to make it pop? You have to click on the banner somewhere and you should see an aweber form with semi transparent background pop up.

Checked it in both the latest FF and IE8 - looked fine. Blended in a bit too well, I think, because if I hadn't been looking for it, I would have ignored it.

On first opening, the "OPEN" link is so close to the X to close that I accidentally closed it the first time.

Once I got it open, it looked fine to me, although the graphics looked kind of familiar to me. Seems like I've seen them somewhere before earlier today. I've looked at so many pages today, it might be my imagination...

I just changed the banner to white - but thinking maybe a bright green will draw more attention.

That Aweber sign up on the right is one of awebers fancy new templates, and the book on the left was just made so not sure you've seen that ecover before.

I do believe you visited the main site for me before (not the blog) when I was getting advice on the girl.

I like it better now but two things - one is that the open and x are way too close (if I hadn't seen the warning above, I would have x'ed it out) and two is that I still think it's too subtle to be very effective in building a list.

Is your client dead set against putting a sub box above the fold? Even just a Newsletter link in the nav bar would be something.

            Tina,

I tried adding the optin in the sidebar, and it shifts the whole thing down to the bottom of the page leaving the top of it white.

I tried adding the optin to show at the top of the posts, and that was screwey too.

I even tried to make a blog post and a page post - and in firefox the aweber fields show the name and email tags but no boxes to input your information.

It all has to do with the template some how. If I try to post a picture into a post in the center, it shows up on the left.

I have upgraded to the latest version of WP, I am only running a few plugins - but the issues were happening before I added plugins.

It is really frustrating, and the only thing I could come up with to work is to use a plugin for the optin.

One optin that covers the whole page is not ideal for this particular site. Almost too much in your face.

I looked at the other footer today mentioned above, went to install the trial, and discovered that because the site is on godaddy I won't be able to use it because relies on it's own database and php5.

So I am between a rock and a hard place on a decent solution.

This is a very simple footer - but I think some adjustments using it will be better than nothing right now.

I'm planning to add a seperate mini squeeze page and link to that at the end of all the posts.

What is interesting about this footer is that you can add video to it - so that may be something to test in the future.

But I need to make it pop a bit now more which is evident from the lovely fresh eyes here.

I'll ditch the green and play with it a bit. Then I can work on the fantastic one liner to get people to click and look behind the green curtain.

            Edit:

LOL, just added a really obnoxious color.....

Thanks - I did see that in an email from aweber. Good to know I'm not losing it... Enough senior moments as it is.

I still think you might need to do something with the text in the strip at the bottom - that blue-green disappears unless you are looking for it. Can't find the link right now, but there's a CSS trick that makes the text look like it has a drop shadow. Works wonders for making text pop out at you...

Nothing to do with your original question, but just wanted to comment that the bottom background images are beautiful. I'm a bit of a sucker for that sort of stuff and would probably at least test a page with the top and bottom images reversed. If the drips came through your headline into your copy I think that would be a bit spectacular.

I'm not saying it is a good idea. The top ones are more business like and there is a good chance that they are more appropriate, just as the page is. It's just that I don't think a lot of people ever get to see the bottom of a page especially when it is long.

Also the comment doesn't come from any marketing talent at all, but quite a nice page.

Edit: sorry I didn't mean drips, but the bubbles under the whirl in the right image.
