Why Can't Some People Stand You Making Money?

I've been getting this feeling lately that most people can't stand to see someone promoting a product or providing a service. Since when was it wrong to make money? We all need it to survive.

I hear people say: I can't stand someone making money off of me! but their boss does it everyday they come into work.

Am I missing something?

You're not missing anything at all. It's mentality like that which keeps the masses from succeeding in IM, they want everything for free and/or ridiculously cheap, but in the process they end up sabotaging themselves because they don't attach any value to what they get!

I've read Russell Brunson state more than once that he insists on paying for every IM course that he gets, even though he can obviously get them all for free, because that literally forces him to take action instead of letting it gather dust. There's true wisdom in that statement there, and he's entirely correct! I can't even remember all the times I downloaded something that was free and never paid any attention to it, even though it could have been worth a lot of money to me if I had just perused the material and taken action!

    Envy leads to jealousy.

I find that the biggest obstacles in life that prevent me from succeeding is who I hang out with and research shows that who you hang out with influences your behaviour more than your parents ever did. They play a role but are not the main influence later in life, you actually become more like your friends.

so it goes without saying that if you hang around negative influences who try to bring you down all the time then you find it really difficult to succeed but when you are surrounded by like minded entrepreneurs, you find encouragement and support which aids in your motivation and drive to succeed and you find it easier.

Hence entrepreneurial type people often have difficulty talking about what they do with non-entrepreneurial people and get really frustrated at friends and family.

There's also the fact that when you become successful, people will have to treat you differently and that is a inconvenience to them.

At the end of the day, choose your friends wisely because they will play a major influence on you.

I have a long winded theory about why people feel the need to damage others but I'll save it, the state of 'you vs me' instead of 'you & me' is common and people in that mental state often fail, while those of us who have the 'you & me' state of mind will make a very good go of it because we understand that having a friend is better than having an enemy.

I agree with Louise that 'you & me' is not the mentality of the masses who from sheer jealousy would love to see you fail in order for themselves to feel superior, and the harder you fall the better.

How much of a lie is this phrase?

Most people have been brought up to believe this phrase: 'An honest day's pay for an honest day's work'.

The truth is, most people are being underpaid precisely because the company is what comes first. Many employees are being squeezed out of every dollar they should earn. That is not exactly an 'honest day's pay'. The company has to turn a profit. If everyone is paid exactly what they are worth, the company will go under. The company always comes first.

Entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals on the other hand are ALWAYS paid what they are worth. If they provide value to the market place, they get paid in spades.

Because it points out their lack of success.

Any other reason is just a smokescreen to cover up their real feelings.

lol that's so true... I think it's partial resentment in that they wish they were making money too.

Kind of reminds me of crabs and a crab trap... where the major thing that keeps the crabs in is the other crabs pulling those that try to escape back in...

Unfortunately many people are like this where they can't enjoy someone else's success. Try not to let it bother you is the best advice.

There are many reasons, quite a few mentioned above already.

I think of it this way; The buyer does not value my contribution to the transaction. They do not see the value that I bring, and the effort it takes to bring the buyer and the seller together.

So the buyer feels robbed, that I am causing the price to be higher than it should, that I am being paid for nothing. That I am making money by accident, or by good fortune, at his expense.

    Why is this?

In IM, we focus on promoting the product/service so that we find buyers and earn a percentage. We do not focus on telling the buyer what we have done to make the transaction happen. The buyer learns the value of the product/service that we promote, the buyer never learns the value of our contribution.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

If your friends or associates are giving you that feeling... get new friends and associate with more prosperous people. The goal of a utopian society is that everyone has everything they need and want in a quantity decided by them.

That should also be the American Way. if I am satisfied with making $10.00 an hour that is a good thing. but if I decide I want to make $500+ an hour or even 100,000 then that is a good thing also. do not begrudge those who think in bigger terms than you because they pave the way to make your dream come true.. Multi-billionaires each one of us can be if that is what we chose to do and then start the path toward that goal. A lifetime is a long time

I must be missing something. I never hear anyone say they can't stand someone promoting a product or providing a service. I do hear that people can't stand scammers and ripoff artists who promise the moon and deliver crap.

I was just discussing this last night in a prison workshop for some guys getting ready to go back out into the world and start their own business and find jobs once again. Bottom line is this: no matter what you try to sell, what your skin color, religion, label (they fear the "ex-con" label will hold them back in life now)...some people will not like you. All of us face these types of issues; that's life.

So just move ahead and focus on the positive. There are plenty of people who will be supportive of your efforts and who will appreciate you and what good you have to offer. It's that sow and reap thing.

There's no hidden mystery. There's a reason why 'envy' is one of the seven deadly sins.

I worked with a guy who couldn't stand that a fellow colleague was earning as much money as him, despite starting much later, even though the guy was doing the same job.

I pointed out to him the obvious envy in his heart. The good thing was, he realised I was right and corrected himself.

    Not everyone can.

Just stay away from people like that. And, if you can't, don't let them know what you're doing.

The only people they're hurting is themselves as they're feeling the pain in their heart, and it's not affecting you... unless you allow it to.

It's stupid to think like that. This is capitalism. Everyone is making money off everyone. If you don't want anyone to make money off you, go live in a deserted forest and avoid any contact with the civilization.

It may be stupid but it happens. Many people have no problem paying hundreds of dollars for a new TV, but begrudge paying $30 for something that they want and that will help them, because it is online.

Envy and jealousy cause problems too, if you are successful in an enterprise that is not of the norm (or what is classed as the norm, i.e. a job) then there seems to be an element of disbelief and scorn.
