Unlock the true power of what you do by building friendships.

I have noticed over the last year, many people talking about using social bookmarking purely for gaining backlinks and not very much more.

However if used correctly sites like Stumbleupon especially can be used to gain a ton of traffic. The key is building relationships.

On stumble for example, by searching through members you will find people who have massive amounts of friends and subscribers. They are the people who post the most sites and get viewed many times.

If you can strike up a connection with some of these Stumblers, the future value of these relationships can be huge.

Imagine connecting with an experienced Stumbler with hundreds of subscribers, and having them Stumble one of your sites for you. Do you think that would attract more eyeballs than your simple incidental "backlink" Stumble?

The key is to find a connection or common interest and build from that. IMO to use these sites just for links is a waste. Think long term. Building relationships will help build your business.

Hope this makes sense to someone.

Just to clarify this point. I am not saying using social bookmarking for backlinking is a bad thing. I just feel they can be so much more powerful than that.

What you're saying is true, but building relationships for the purpose of exploiting them for personal gain isn't something that sits well with a lot of people, so that may be why more people don't do it (I'm not inferring you meant it that way, but that's how it would feel to many). That, and developing a relationship takes time. Developing several takes a lot of time.

yeah reading the opening thread back it could be taken wrongly. I'm really suggesting people take the time to network and make connections, rather than just rush everything for money making sake. A side effect of building those friendships is that it can help your business long term.
