Question: What's stopping you from doing...

This is a open question for everyone (CPA/PPC'ers, "Offline" Marketers, Info Marketers etc.)

For those of you who have bought WSOs, taken the courses, watched the webinars etc. but have yet to actually use any of the information you have learned...what is stoppping you?

Is it the belief you still don't know enough to get started?

Fear of losing money by not knowing enough?

Worried what other's will think of your products?

What is stopping you from using the information you PAID money for?

Since I asked it, I'll get started, I'll be the first to admit that I've bought WSOs that I was really excited to try out, and then for whatever reason just never did.

I noticed this when going through my folders this week and seeing a lot of old books with great info that I just never actually implemented.

    Why?

Distractions. I am horrible with trying to multi-task many different projects at once and getting side tracked!

So my focus in 2010 is to focus on one "project" at a time until it is completed. Then adding new strategies / services into the mix from there...instead of trying to implement them all at the same time.

This is the first on the list of reasons of 'not doing'. Distractions ...

Many people say many things. We easily get diverted all those strategies. I am sure they are good, but we should focus on the thing in the hand. I even let couple of my domains expired as I can not spend much time on them.

Many people who see this thread might know it;s
a problem, but won't admit it.

And if they do, that doesn't mean they'll stop buying
    excessivley without taking action.

You can know you have a drug problem, admit it, and
    still take those drugs.

But it is the first step to avoiding the problem.

I know this, because I use to be like almost any other
newbie. I honestly thought having multiple strategies
and mult-tasking was the way to go, despite reading
and knowing that focus was the key.

    I just never got it.

Now, and I'm not kidding, I have a business partner
who tells me he has alot of ideas (ones that have
and do make money) he want's to implement and he
wants my help in a partnership...I told him my conditions
and that I absolutly cannot work unless we have it on
paper, and printed out as a strategy.

After getting the results I get from focused, consistent
effort, I couldn't imagine ever thinking about buying
another product again because I have on paper exactly
what needs to be done - and it's FOCUSED.

In fact, I tested myself, and I don't have those same
desires I did in the past about "$1000 easy fast money".

Not that their bad, but once you buy 1 to 3, you have
enough to work off on until those are successful, than
you can move forward with another strategy.

As someone who teaches people how to make money online... I've realized that sometimes the stuff is just not easy enough for people to do...

I've read eBooks on CPA methods that tell you to do some pretty elaborate things... That MANY people, especially newbies are just not willing to do (whether it be out of laziness, frustration, etc.)

That is why I try to teach the easiest methods possible so that they have the opportunity to take action on something that they KNOW will work... Which gives a person incentive and inspiration to TAKE ACTION.

    Best,
    Shane

However, that excuse doesn't always fly. I've put out guides that a child could follow, and yet a majority will not follow through. They get excited, they start on it, but a week down the road another 'shiny' comes along.

I applaud those who do, because taking concerted action is truly the biggest factor for success.

Along with the fear of not knowing enough, it is ultimately analysis paralysis.

In my case, it's because the reports/blueprints/etc really do not contain actionable information, at least in a specific enough form. I was reading something that others have paid for (I didn't specifically) which was dozens of pages long, primarily 'rah rah' filler fluff. It got to the meat, and in less than one page, it had text along the lines of

    "now, write your report"

and that was as specific as it got.

Many other pages were full of lists of directories to submit stuff too, and many other pages of payment processing instructions and whatnot. But, when it came to brass tacks, there was little in terms of "do X, and you do X by doing X1, X2, X3, X4, etc and here's what you should have at the end". It may as well have said "go make some money by doing stuff" because that statement has just as many actionable steps as this blueprint people were buying.

I think many people new to the field read the hype, buy this stuff, try to 'get it' and ultimately don't because much of it, while not *wrong* technically, and while possibly *helpful*, isn't *actionable*.

That is true. A lot of the reports I have bought are extremely vague. They don't really teach you the skills you need or explain HOW to do things. They just tell you what to do and are more like a vague business plan outline.

This is a major problem that I have. I have been wanting to build an internet business for about the last 2 or 3 years but I have done almost nothing. I have bought dozens of ebooks and IM courses and haven't done much of anything. I have a ledger now where I keep track of how much I spend on IM products and right now I have spent $312 since July of last year. So far I haven't followed through on any of them, I read them but I barely did anything. Somehow I managed to write like 3 articles and submit them to ezinearticles and amazingly made $50.

What prevent's me from taking action? I'm not really sure but I think it is a combination of things. My main hesitation is that all the ebooks I buy tell me I have to write content but I hate writing and get really bad writers block, I think I have a fear of writing about things I know nothing about. Another problem I have is I'm afraid to invest too much money. I've been wanting to try PPC but I keep reading it takes a significant amount of investment so I haven't tried it yet. Another problem I have is I try to implement what the courses say but I get confused and frustrated and just give up. For example they will say "find 10 keywords with 100 daily searches and less than 10,000 competing websites" but I spend hours doing keyword research and don't find any. Another major problem I have is procrastination. I will read an ebook and promise myself I will get started working on it the next day but then I never do, I waste my time browsing this forum, checking my emails, and doing whatever. I also have trouble finding the time. I work part time and go to school part time and somehow I can never find enough time to work on making money online. I also never follow through on things. I will start to work on something but then I will get an e-mail for another ebook or course and it will look interesting so I will buy it and then start following that ebook instead until a new one comes out.

I think my main problems are lack of focus, confusion, lack of willpower and discipline, procrastination, information overload, and mostly I don't really believe I can really do it. I can't really imagine making a living online, it's more like just a dream. I also don't feel I have the mindset or skillset of an Internet Marketer. I'm horrible at copywriting and selling. To use an analogy, I do really well in math related classes but always fail English classes or classes that require a lot of writing and essays. I don't know why. Math comes naturally but writing essays is torture. It seems like internet marketing is suited more for the English majors. I'm starting to doubt if internet marketing is really for me. Just like how some people are meant to be artists and some are meant to be engineers. I'm also really depressed so that might be causing my lack of motivation and will to work at this IM thing.

If you could help me actually get started on building a real IM business and making real money online you would be a god. If you could teach me how to focus, build good work habits, and teach me how to think like an internet marketer and teach me the skills required to succeed at internet marketing like writing good content, that would be a miracle.

I honestly think a lot of it has to do with the fact that most people don't like to write. Let's face it. For most of us, the moment we finish high school or college, we think that's the last time we'll have to write something creatively.

It's tough for a lot people to just turn on the creative button. If you were to tell the average person to write a 500 word article on a certain subject, they would look at you like you were from Mars. You can of course outsource it, but as many people said, they don't want to spend money on their business at the very beginning.

It really comes down to sacrificing time or money. I don't think there is any way of getting around that.
