How do you title your articles?

I'm just starting to wrap my head (and my fingers) around article marketing.

My question is, what is the best way to title your article?

I'm writing a multi-part series on how to become a freelance graphic designer.

I wrote the headline: "Freelance Graphic Design and Writing Made Easy - Part 1"

This has some of the most commonly searched terms in my niche in the headline. Seems like a good article title at first glance. But since these keywords are so popular, they're probably also highly competitive, so it might be tough to get search engine traffic to my article based on this title....right?

Is it better to just have a simple title like:

"How to go freelance - Part 1" ?

Is it better to target keywords that aren't as competitive?

Or am I totally overthinking this whole thing??!

Are the keywords in the title not worth as much thought as I'm putting into this!?

Any tips greatly appreciated.

Thanks much!
Elliott

  • Actually....I still have the question: Is it better not to try and target the most popular keywords in my niche? Is it more likely that I am going to be successful by targeting less popular keywords? Is this a bigger question of keyword strategy?

    Hi,

Here is my view on it.

Targeting the best keywords isn't going to cost you anything other than time so it is worth testing.

If you are giving good content, but not giving everything away, then people will add it to their sites. Quality counts every time.

Look for some other ways of saying the same thing in your title keywords as well, then write articles around them.

A series is fine in theory, but if for whatever reason a few of the parts do not get accepted by all the directories, then you have been scuppered in your efforts for series continuity.

    I hope this helps you.

you can not simply "guess" the keywords, and the most searched ones are often also not really the best. There is a reason why there's keyword research software. Use a Keyword Search Tool | www.1UP-SEO.com

Find a good compromise high search volume <---> competing sites to get a chance for better rankings, this applies for web sites but also for articles/titles.

I have been very lucky to come across a guy by the name of Dave Hardin...

He is an expert author, salescopy writer, article writer and he has done work for a lot of the top guys online.

He had a couple of important things to say...
Your headline should include your keywords, I would do some research and see if you can get variations on the competitive keywords, so maybe you won't get soooo much competition...

He then said that you should, add in something catchy to your keywords in you title... say

Internet Marketing Secrets... Want To Learn How To Make Money Online...

Okay that was pretty boring.. haha!!! but you have to try and intice the person to click on your article and to just have

internet marketing secrets.. well it just may not cut it....

Just work on the title and see how that goes...

Plus have you keyword phrase in the 1st paragraph of the article, as this shows up in search engine results.. I just start the paragraph with my title....

Man I hope this helps... If you have any other questions or if I have confused anyone just send me a pm...

      take Care..
