Updated list of free press release sites

I originally posted a list of free press release sites about a year or two ago on the WF. Since then, some of the free sites started charging a fee, some sites became very buggy & hard to use, etc., so I have removed the bad sites from my list and added a few new ones to replace them.

They're well worth the time - you can get some serious google love by using press release sites.

And by the way, if anyone has any OTHERS that they use and like - please let me know! I'm always looking for more sites to add, especially because these sites regularly seem to go out of business, start charging fees, or getting all buggy and weird.

No, they have packages ranging from $80 to $360. They used to be free. Webwire, at $19.95, is a good low cost paid press release site, they go live instantly, and they get very good Google ranking.

Thanks Dana. It's important that warriors realise that these "free sites" regularly change and morph into other things.

I would add that you should also create your own press release list of influential websites/blogs in your niche and send a release directly to them.

Most definitely! I've also had great success with ezinearticles and with Associated Content, for getting good Google placement. There are many ways to promote your website/products/services, and press releases are just one of them.

        These sites are free and allow anchor text in linking to your site;

        bignews.biz
        lets-find-out.com
        freepressindex.com
        release-news.com
        sogroop.com
        mooladays.com

There are at least 20 more that I have used but these seem to have the highest pagerank.

I think that making a subset of the big list that represents PR sites that allow backlinks, be they URL only or anchor text, would be extremely valuable, both for traffic and page rank.

Thanks so much for the additional press release sites! It's hard to find good new ones - so I'm excited to check these new sites out and see how they do!

My best keyword tip - put your best keyword in the headline. That works really well for Google placement.

Also - your press release doesn't have to be long. In fact, it shouldn't be. 300-400 words is sufficient, seriously. Just write it in proper press release format, include the call to the action at the end, and you're done.

Call to action - "Those seeking more information about Jim Bob's line of exercise videos, or to make a purchase, can visit www. blah blah blah dot com."

I have to agree. In the online world, Press Releases are short, sweet and to the point. Quite different from actual Press Releases that go out to TV, Radio and Newspapers. I have had to write quite a few of those in my career, and they can get tedious.

Dana, great info. I am rather new to WF and always find a lot of useful information here.

I think the question here is, what is a 'proper' length that increases your chances for wide syndication?

Too short and maybe the site won't be interested, same for too long. I've seen the sweet spot suggested to be in the 800-word range but that sounds too long to me.

I suppose you could experiment with different lengths to see which gives the widest syndication.

Anywhere between 300-500 words is good. 800 words sounds waaay long to me. PRNewswire charges extra if you go over 400 words.

Yeah, unfortunately, what I find is that these sites tend to go out of business or change how they operate quite frequently. That's why I have to regularly go through and prune out the bad ones and find new ones to replace them with.

    Hi Dana,

Thanks for the list. I hope this thread gets converted to an all-in-one on press release.

Anyway will just subscribe and save the URL so I won't misplace it.

    Dana,

Thanks for creating this thread and bringing some sites to my attention. I have a product called the "Ultimate Newswire Directory" which lists 150+ sites and ranks those sites on 7 different criteria. (Links, images, Alexa, PR, etc.) So I'm always looking for new sites that come to my attention.

In researching these press sites, it's clear there is a need to go beyond just a list and provide context -- specific features and benefits on the respective sites. (For example, the need for indicating which sites allow for backlinks.)

It's a time consuming process, but for those of us that are doing press release marketing regularly, it's worth it!

That sounds like a very worthwhile product. Definitely, not all free press release sites are created equal. For instance, some I didn't put on my list because they look really poorly designed, or have TERRIBLE grammar and spelling on the home page, which is not ideal for a press release distribution site.

And of course knowing which ones offer additional services is very helpful as well.

This would make a perfect All-In-One-Thread. Thank you Dana for starting this. I love submitting press releases, it's a great way to create backlinks and traffic. When done correctly and consistently, you can get guest spots on radio shows. One press release landed me in a UK reality show and I live in the states. Go figure!
