I am new to wordpress and I have been looking on the internet for good themes where I can add my own header image. I was just wondering how I can tell if the theme is optimized for SEO and also if it is suitable for different plugins.

My cousin has sent me quite a few good themes but I can't add my own header image in the ones I like. I am just thinking that picture at the top would look better, or do you think it doesn't matter as long as there are pictures in my posts?

Thanks

I really like the Mystique theme...it is SEO optimized and gives you all kinds of options for adding custom elements and header graphics.

The best part is it's FREE.

I have never seen a theme that you couldn't change an image or add a header: you just have to know what to change in the code.

"Picture at the top" might look better in your eyes... however if it is too big then a visitor might find it annoying that s/he has to scroll down to see the content below the fold.

It depends on what purpose will your blog have. If you want a fancy blog with lots of pictures - some kind of personal blog - than ok. If it's for business purposes I guess there's no need for many pictures. Just header pic perhaps and some decent graphics.

You can find tons of tutorials that teach on how to add header image, etc... try searching for it and also there are some youtube videos about it as well. Some themes are easy to modify from their setting, some other themes will let you modify the header by opening the header php files resp. css style sheets files.

(see this for example: YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.)

    Hope it helps.

Thanks for all your advice, and thanks Marian for adding the link for that video. So how do I know if a theme is SEO optimized? Just wondering as I have seen a couple of themes that I like.

I forgot to mention that my blog is for business use, not personal. Maybe I could do without a header image.
