Hi mate, a "list" is a list of people who subscribe to email updates from you. It is a marketing tool which is used to notify potential customers of any offers you are promoting. The beauty of this is that they are targetted customers who are interested in your products and are therefore classed as warm leads.

Many people give away free products as a reward for people signing up to their "list" as well.

Further to Mitchymoo's explanation, substantial lists can then be sold, swapped with other IM'ers and in general be used to generate income from the subscribers.

Lists are a good way in building a consistent and long term income stream.

This is where the whole concept of marketing and building your own personal brand come into play. You will need to invest some money into an autoresponder service such as aweber, getresponse, or similar. These companies provide you with the html you need to add onto your websites so that people can enter their name & email so you can send then some content or keep them updated with events going on in the niche that you've chosen to be an expert in.

Think of it like having a massive twitter following where the more good content and contacts you make the more traffic you can generate on demand, and the more eyeballs you can generate will normally mean more commission.

Because if any search engine decides to screw you over, you have a valuable resource to still provide you with income! And what is even more incredible, you have a resource you can leverage into a larger resource...over and over and over again!

A list is made up of people who have subscribed to your mailing list.

Many gurus have as many as 200,000 subscribers in their list.

So were they to market a product to their list and lets say 4% of them buy that will mean 8,000 purchases.

Supposing the product paid $25 each. The guru would make $200,000 for himself.

Thats why many internet marketers have lists. It is a cash cow.

It will be wise you gather more knowledge about the online marketing before you star a list.

A list is simply means mailing list of people who have opted to receiving information from you.

Have you ever downloaded an e-book and before downloading told to supply your name and info. If you submitted your contact details, you are now on the list of the e-book author.

Many internet marketers have list bcos it is a huge source of income.

Let say you have a list of 10,000 subscribers and you now decide to market a product to them . Let say the product earn $25 for each product that is sold.

Imagine if 2% of the 10,000 bought. That is 200 x 25 which is $5,000.

For many online marketers, it is a massive source of income!

Because it is a massive source of income does not mean you can just dive into it.

For your list to respect and buy from you, you must cultivate their respect and trust. It takes some time and skill.

For a newbie, I advise you learn for sometime on wf before building a list.

I think everyone has explained what a list is pretty well.

In order to gain one, you generally build what is called a "Squeeze page" this is a page where you send your traffic.

On this page the visitor has the option to download an ebook, join a newsletter, or receive a video from you.

In order to receive this, the visitor will have to "opt in" to your list.

Then you just send traffic to your site.
