Converting PDF files to DOC files

I have several old public domain documents in PDF format that I want to convert to Word documents so I can edit them, remove some pages, etc. etc. I tried saving them as a Word document from within the PDF file and it saved them fine. However, I can't do any editing on them when I save them that way. I also tried copying them to Word through the Select All and Copy functions in Adobe. That doesn't work worth a darn either. In fact, some of the documents won't copy that way.

So I would really appreciate it if someone can tell me how I can do that without having to buy expensive software.

Thanks

A lot depends on how the PDFs were created. If they were scanned from a book then likely they are in a graphical format and all you will be able to copy is "pictures" of the pages.

If this is the case then you may be able to use OCR software to extract the text, but expect to do extensive proofreading.

    How can you tell?

real easy can you select the actual text on the page? if so then the PDF document was created from a text source. If you cannot select the individual text then it is an image format.

      Hi,

The book was scanned...so I guess the pages are graphics and not text...I guess that's why I can't edit them. Darn. Okay, I guess I have to develop a "Plan B". Not sure what I'm gonna do now, but I'll figure it out I guess.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

    Hi,
If it contains text in form of images or if the text is in scanned format then you need this ocr software. PM me if you need a free license key for it. as you are a fellow warrior, I will be happy to help you in this.

"thanks" me if you like the info
