Be truthful -are you singing a 'better song' or 'the same song with a different tune?"

This post is not meant to embarrass anybody to make people feel bad but I thought it was an important point to make.

Regarding your Internet Marketing business, are you singing "a better song" or the "same song but to a different tune?"

What I mean is this:

When you embarked on your Internet marketing career you will have had lots of aspirations and plans which looked so much better than the life that you had with your offline job.

This was the same path that all of your friends and family took. but you wanted to 'sing a better song' and improve your lot in life.

You wanted financial and independent freedom. You wanted the dream of working a few hours per day and spending the rest of your time with family and pursuing leisure activities.

Now that you have started your Internet business do you find that you are "singing the same song as everybody else your know but with a different tune?"

Are you still working long hours but now with the added misery of earning LESS money than you did when you were working at a regular job?

Do you find that you spend less time with your friends and family as you did before because you are constantly glued to your computer?

Internet Marketing for a lot of people is tough.

True, there are a lot of Warriors here who have a fantastic lifestyle and earn a lot of money in the process. They really are singing a better song.

However there are many more who are struggling and may be even disillusioned with their IM business.

Being in this situation is not necessarily a bad thing as you might be progressing in the right direction and within grasp of your goals.

What are your thoughts?

Just starting out, but I must stay IM is really time consuming.

I really want to pursue a career in IM, but I have noticed that sometimes I lock myself up in my room for over 12 hours a day. Doing studying, creating sites etcetera. Keep in mind, I'm just starting out and haven't done much yet. I know the workload is going to be even bigger when I start driving traffic, doing bookmarking and submission manually and writing tons of articles.

Yeah sometimes it's a nightmare and a little isolating.
I feel such an ass for not having time for family.

      Hi Katya

      Thanks for your comments.

I'm sure that your hard work and dedication will be rewarded soon and you won't have to spend quite so long on your IM business.

I know when I first started out I was 'busy busy busy' all day long but then at the end of the day felt like I hadn't achieved much.

I now create a list of the things that I need to do and make sure that at least 80% of tasks on the list are 'action tasks'; that will have a direct benefit to my business.

For example: Research and learning new skills is very important and in the long term they will pay off.

However, in the short-term, making an actual post on my blog, submitting an article or adding a new email to my autoresponder sequence will have an immediate benefit to my business.

Try and set yourself a time when you will start and stop work for that day and stick to it until the fruits of your hardwork pay off and automate the earning process so that you can spend time away from your computer and earn money

I have no illusions about becoming rich with my internet business...I am just trying to earn a living.

Running a business is work...especially when you first start it, regardless of whether it is online or offline. Businesses often run in the red for the first few years and many fail. Those who have the tenacity to withstand the hard times and put in those long hours will succeed.

For a long time, not only was I singing the same tune, but it was out of tune
and I wasn't making anywhere near what I made when I worked an 8 hour
day...and this was working 14 hours at my business.

Now, I work when I feel like and make more than double what I earned at
      my job.

So not only am I singing a different tune, I'm in a whole new musical genre.

      But it didn't happen overnight.

The Notorious S.T.E.V.E.N. - now that would get me into rap!

Seriously, good post. Thinking "outside the box" makes the difference between making it and making it big...and not just in IM.

        Hi Steven

Thats what I wanted to hear

The whole point of being in this business is to be set free and to have the independence that eludes everybody else who goes to work for somebody else.

It is my opinion that those who don't try to 'sing a better song' are not cut out for this business and would probably earn more in paid employment.

Why wouldnt you have a notion to get Rich off Internet Marketing ?? To me this is a prime example why people NEVER really reach true, true Prosperity !!

I think we all run into this problem and are guilty of this limited type of thinking. Mainly because we are programmed at a young Age that you get older, graduate from School and go out and get a job. And if we are fortunate we can find a job where we can make $50K a year. That is how we are programmed. That is what our parents tell us to do, that is what our teachers tell us to do, that is what our friends tell us to do, that is what the job placement people tell us what to do etc..etc..blah, blah, blah !!

The fact of the matter is there are many people who have 'de programmed' themselves away from this type thinking. They are no longer brainwashed by the status quoe of what is a decent amount of money.
They introduce this notion: Why do you have to make the goal $50K a year at a job. Why cant 50k a week be done ??
I mean honestly did you ever wonder or ask yourself who in the hell came up with the rule that said that 50K a year was doing good ?? This is just such ludicrous thinking to go along with something because thats just the way it is and thats the way it has always been !!

Once you get this mindset completely wiped away from your conscious then the sky is the limit !!

Of course, I myself am still working on it !!

But why not start setting a long term Rule that says 50K a month is making a decent Living !!

And if you get this notion engrained enough in your head over time you will find that consciously and subconsciously you will start doing things that will enable you to reach this goal.

Not only that, but a lot of people singing the wrong song think the best way to make it a good song is to sing it louder!

Sorry, but if it's the wrong song, turning up the volume will only increase your poor results.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to get a song from a top composer (read: a good mentor).

    Rock on!

Nice metaphor and I agree with that. I think the songs are about the stages. You sing a song with a different tune till you create the best song ever. So better song is like a goal every Online Marketer is striving to achieve.

That's a nice extension to Michaels thoughts - it's a bit like writing your own symphony or opera.

Seriously though, you are right and trying to create a better future for ourselves via our business should be our goal.

Otherwise what would be the point?

        Thanks
