The Techno Dunce Needs Help With His Forum Sig

Okay, I'm self admitted an idiot when it comes to technology, but I can't
for the life of me understand why I keep getting a message that my sig
can't be more than 1,000 characters including BBCode.

I physically counted the letters and the 5 lines I had were half of that, if
even that much. I can't imagine the BBCode is that long UNLESS because
the thread titles are so long now it's sucking up the life of the sig lines.

If that's the case, is there any way to get this limit raised? As it is now, 5
lines is almost an impossibility if you're running WSOs.

The SE ready thread titles may be great for the SEs but they're lousy for
sig lines IF indeed that's what the problem is.

So I guess what I'm asking is, does anybody know for sure?

hi Steven I think we have all had problems with our sig files at some point. I tried to load a new one up tonight and it said my color code was the wrong one which it wasn't. I have this problem every time I try to change my sig file but I worked out how to get around the problem. I went into the edit mode and completely removed the color code section.

It might be that it would pay you to use the edit mode to upload your sig file. At least it is worth a try anyway.

Edit mode???? What the frick is that?

Isn't that what I'm doing when I click on "Edit Signature?"

Remember Andrew, you're talking to a technical illiterate here.

I honestly have no idea how to deal with your specific problem, but I can suggest a possible workaround, I just can't decide if it's a good idea or not!

Have your signature point to a Warrior blog post of yours. You can then put as much info as you like on it about your WSOs. Maybe not the slickest of solutions but it might just work.

    Hey Steven,

Try making TinyURLs out of your WSO links and use those in the sig file.

You can still keep the same link text, but this should cut down dramatically on the number of characters used.

I'm not sure if this will solve the problem, but maybe it's worth a try?

Waggerz.. you have to count the URLs too.. so each character in the complete sig is counted... cut em down with TinyURL or some wagdomain.com re-directs....

    Peace

Yeah, that's probably what I'll have to do.

      Thanks Jay.

    Hi Steven,

You copied and pasted it from another application such as word right?

If so all you need to do is actually type it in manually.

Sometimes when you copy and paste from other apps it includes things(characters) you can't
see that take up more space than allowed which confuses the app receiving the pasted info.

I'm Trying hard to be non technical here so try it.

    Have a Great Day!
    Michael
PS, If you have the color not allowed issue as some one stated above, Then in your editor here
on the forum(Where you change your sig) click on the little box in the upper right to switch
    from WYSING to Text edit.

You will see that copied Hyperlinks include Blue color tags. Remove the color tags and you
    should be good to go.
