Relying on technology terrifies me - will they still love me tomorrow

I have just set up another new website and I am so nervous.

I am trusting so many people I have never met and know nothing about

Here's the list

1. My hosting - I have 19 sites here and I have no surety they will host me tomorrow
2. My autoresponder service - If they dissappeared what would I do?
3. My payment processor paypal - I never feel in control with their buy now system
4. The affiliate programs I promote - They could pull the plug right now and waste days/weeks of work.
5. The possibility that an unscrupulous customer decides I promised them riches and that I did not deliver. I love my disclaimer page

Does anyone else ever worry about not having full control?

My offline business is looking a lot better today

    Hello Ken

All of us have had outages of one sort or another during our time online.

But you set everything up in the first place, so you can do so again, if you need to.

    1. My hosting - I have 19 sites here and I have no surety they will host me tomorrow

Keep a local copy of everything you've uploaded so you can upload it somewhere else if you need to. If you are using remotely created files (eg MySQL databases) then make regular backups and download them to your local PC.

    2. My autoresponder service - If they dissappeared what would I do?

Host your own () and keep local backups of your data or get another service. If using a service, keep a local copy of all messages and take a regular backup of your data.

    3. My payment processor paypal - I never feel in control with their buy now system

Not sure what you mean by that. Sure, they have their own little ways but generally it's fine. Withdraw your money regularly.

    4. The affiliate programs I promote - They could pull the plug right now and waste days/weeks of work.

When creating affiliate links in ebooks etc, use a link to a redirect script on your site and not the affiliate merchant site. That way, if the program goes down, you can change the link in your redirect script to point to a different program.

    5. The possibility that an unscrupulous customer decides I promised them riches and that I did not deliver. I love my disclaimer page.

Cool you've got a disclaimer. For belt and braces, get your solicitor to check it out.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hi,

Most of your list can be automatically backed up and/or replaced quite easily. To be honest, these seem like a list of the joys of running your own business. In the offline world you have suppliers, couriers, legal issues etc etc. At least online its easier to backup and/or replace.

    Cheers,
    Sam

    Hi Ken,

I think I know what you're getting out. I went through similar worries a couple of years ago when I first started relying on online stuff to provide my salary.

It doesn't bother me so much anymore though, I guess the more I got into it the more I learned about backing up and stuff like that...

Or on the other hand, maybe I just learned to ignore the fear lol...
