You just can't make this stuff up. A Chicago woman won an auction for an abandoned home in Saginaw, Mich. for a lousy $1.75

$1.75 eBay bid gets home - Real estate - MSNBC.com

Is the housing market that bad - seriously.

It's not much of a house, mostly taxes. At least it wasn't a scam.

The land will be worth more once the home is knocked down. But it's going to take quite awhile for the land to go up in value.

I wonder if the back taxes and clean up fees will be worth it...

The backtaxes and cleanup fees was only 800 bucks so yes I think 801 dollars is a good price for a house

Not too shabby for a $1.75 - I was involved in real estate myself and I never heard of anything selling this cheap. I've seen "depressed" homes go up for auction that look like chicken coups go for $500 - $10,000. All you need to do is pay the back taxes and congrats you have a house. BUT you need to invest in that home by doing some home improvements so you can flip it.

It still cracks me up - a home for $1.75

That lady can profit a nice amount, probably 15ks or more, the house wasn't all that impressive but for 1.75 cents, can't beat that..

Yes but the housing market will recover - in a couple of years it could be worth something like $4.25 or even $5...

Well worth it for novelty value alone

She probably bought the baggage of that property as well, location issues, liens, public services problems, tax and zoning problems, many issues that extend well beyond the news story. there are quite a few of these kinds of stories out there.

And growing up in Detroit, I know about Saginaw, MI, some pretty rough neighborhoods there.

    Thanks for the story!

Wow ... time for me to go buy myself a house then.

*Scurries off to log into my adsense account to see if I made at least $3.57 to buy a nicer home than this*
