"Fool Yourself" Into Writing Better Emails...

Have you noticed Autoresponder writing is going down the tubes?
More "buy this" and "cut n paste" affiliate emails are arriving than ever before.

If you're desperately trying to get your AR messages read, follow this simple method.
  1. Close Aweber, GetResponse, etc.
  2. Open up Gmail, Outlook, Thunderbird or any other email client.
  3. Put your best friend's email in the "To:" line.
  4. For the body, personally write your offer to your best friend. Seriously, you're going to email this to him.
  5. Copy the final contents into Aweber or GetResponse and Send.
  6. Delete the Gmail message. (That's the "Fool Yourself" part)
The trick here is to get out of "I'm blasting to 10,000 people" mode...and get into the "I'm talking directly to Bob" mode.

Your language, approach and writing style will immediately change...

...and so will your response rate.

I suspect this is how Frank Kern writes his emails....Very personal and simple....just like emails to your buddies.

    Bingo.

I've trained more folks in broadcast radio than I can count, and the first thing I tell them is to forget how many people can hear them and picture their best friend standing in the room on the other side of the mic.

    Then talk to them.

A really good mass communicator will make you feel like they're talking directly to you; you'll rarely (if ever) see them refer to "all you marketers," "all you listeners" or "all you voters".

Remember, it's not "What's in it for us?"...it's "What's in it for ME?" that you have to answer.

Personally I use a text editor application for writing my e-mails.

However I do go out of my way to make them as personal as possible. I usually try to focus on one single user that I may have interacted with that same week which helps.

Oh wise one Blue Squares you are so right. And warriors if your selling something no matter what make sure you have something super valuable besides the product to give to these people..You must over deliver. If you have noticed lately all the top marketers are giving away 3 different products for Free just to get you to buy through their affiliate link. The demand for value is at it's highest. If you don't prevail you fail~ you dig

I have to say that is very well said. I suspect too many marketers are trying to be the "copy guru" in evert aspect but then again it works. However it does get tedious after a while. And because of this lack of innovation by most they don't get me interested nor a subscriber any longer.

That is clever, I will try it. Thanks. Well you should write your emails like you talk, it's quite different to write emails than salesletters because emails are more personal and it doesn't matter if they have misspellings, what matters is if they sell the click to the salesletter in order to make money.

Great post! I think the most effective emails are those where you're writing in a way that seems like it is directed to just that one person reading it, as opposed to a "mass" common email. I like using this clutter-free word processor - Writer: the internet typewriter
It works in any browser, and it allows you to tune out almost all distractions so that you can focus ONLY on what you are writing. This is also great for writing articles. The nice thing about it is that you can save your documents online as well, making them easily accessible from just about any web-connected computer.

    Excellent tip.

The first time I opened my autoresponder to write a broadcast email it took me 3 hrs to formulate a simple email and then ended up deleting it all. I realized I was trying to sound a like a pro marketer or a top sales guy but that wasn't really my style.

The next day I wrote a broadcast email and loved it. That was personal. Telling them something about me asking something about them and basically communicating.

Not because I wanted my subscribers to open my emails more but because I genuinely genuinely care about them. I mean these are the people I should be in love with and I actually communicate regularly. They email and I respond within 24 hrs.

There are a few flaws in my email marketing [ a lot of flaws actually ] because basically I can't get my self to write an actual promotional email without feeling like an idiot. Mainly cos I know they receive 100s of emails of pitches after pitches and I don't wanna sound like one and I've only just started building a list so don't wanna spoil my relationship with them.

~On a different note. Can anybody please tell what is the average email open percentage to be expected? and what is a good open rate and a bad open rate.

Cheers and thanks again for that helpful post reassuring me that I was doing it right, right from the start

    Dear BlueSquares,

Wow this message is only for you! You May or may not have thought before or after about what subject to write. But when you apply the insta magic copy writing system, your product(s) will fly off the shelf(Shelves) and because the message is only going to you, you better hurry up an purchase before this one of a kind system is sold out to the 155,876,897 people on this list.

PS Really This is a one time offer to only you....

    ahh that was fun,

Not only do you want one on one emails, but consideration of what "voice" you want to write in. Are you writing to solve a problem, To answer a question, to give information, or to share your expertise.

Each voice has a different perspective.

Choosing the right voice helps with making the message personal.

    Nice tip there.
I think that a personal email converts so much better than one that is written for a gazillion subscribers.
