Hosting and domain automatic renewal?

Hi I have umlimited hosting and various domain names due for renew this month but I don't want to neccesarily renew any of them (as I want to shop around for the best host) my questions are

1) what happens to my websites if the hosting runs out? I assume that they will cease and I will just need to upload all the files to my new host to get my website back?

2) What happens to domain names if they are allowed to expire or expire accidently? I assume the websites just come down and I will either have to buy the domain name again or upload my file to another domain name to get the same website back?

3) What is important in terms of SEO value for a website - is it Domain age or website age?

4) If there is a break in hosting or domain (ie I have to renew the same domain name) will this cause me to lose 'website time' or 'domain time' which could affect SEO value?

5) What is the best way to switch hosts without losing domain names and/or losing any website/ domain age?

Many thanks

    1) Yup. Just make sure you have copies of your web site files to upload into
    your new host.

    2) Yup. But if you really value that domain name, don't let it expire as posted
    in a recent thread:

    4) I don't know if it can affect SEO value, but definitely your web site will not
show up online if your domain or web site hosting expires.

    5) This is a shorthand explanation, but the best way is to upload your stuff in
your other hosting and make sure it's "live". When you are ready, you'll switch
your domain name's "nameservers" (like ns1/ns2.serverdotsomething) to those
    of your host.

    Trusting this helps.
