Now i have changed the nameserver to my hosting company but they are recommended that i must remove the domain from registering company then only i can host it with them. No, that shouldn't be the case. Just get the hosting, point the domain to their nameservers, and there shouldn't be a problem. It's probably just an upsell so they can make some money off a domain reg./renew

Ya it sounds scammy. because when i tried to click the remove link it showed a note saying that removing will clear your domain and all the records. So that means if it will clear then i have to rebuy it???

No! It is not necessary, and NOT recommended to have your domain hosted at the same place it it registered -- ever.

If the host goes down for any reason, you won't be able to go into your domain account to re-point it to another server.

  • Fishy? Have you call or contact the customer support and get their explanation? I would like to know why they made the statement. Illogical!

Ridiculously shady, I'd ask around customer service.

That's nonsense. As Gene said, you never want to host from the same place you registered your domain. I would be very hesitant to deal with a company like that again. Obviously, their business practices are a bit shady.

    Absolutely not required.

If we look at things from a positive light, perhaps they were saying things like "name servers are provided free" or if you want to do domain forwarding with our name servers, they have to be here, etc.

I have numerous domains that have name servers in different places, pointing to hosts in different places, no problem.

Just make sure that you don't hit the trap of changing when you are using a service that they don't provide if you don't use their name servers, etc. - they will usually warn you in the console of these limited restrictions.

That said, unless it's one of those wild exceptions, there's zero requirement to have name servers and hosting at the same place.
