Speeding Up Wordpress Installation

Is there a way to upload a pre configured wordpress installation with all my plugins, themes , permalinks, ping list etc reconfigured.

I am in the process of building 30 new blogs all with the same basic elements and want to speed things up a bit.

Could i just get one blog configured then download it to my computer, then just upload it each time i create a new blog....

is there a software product or server side script that could do this

I don't know if there is (someone else probably knows), but if there isn't hire a VA to do it. Half the time hiring someone is cheaper than the tool that does it.

If you were going to do that, this plugin BackupBuddy luginBuddy | WordPress Plugins would make life very simple. It appears to also be handy for transferring blogs you have flipped.

Sarah, I have come across a plug in that allows you to duplicate blogs as you've described, but I can't remember what it's called. I'll try to do a search for it, and PM you when I find it.

you can add wordpress database backup to your plugins list.

      WordPress › WP-DB-Backup WordPress Plugins

thats not only backs up the wordpress install, it backs up all other mysql databases and you can email, download, etc.

upload it to original site and backup all databases

then copy your whole public html folder with ftp program.

and upload it to your new site.

setup new mysql databse on new domain.

go into your new wp-config file and change the mysql info to match the new domain.

log in to new domain wordpress admin and go to settings > backup > restore/upload (not sure, but its one or the other) and upload the backup

      then all should be well.

ps this is especially usefull if you have generic pages (about, terms, privacy)

      because it copies them too

        Not really!

There are 2 rows that you MUST edit in the new database:
        wp_otions > home and site_url

These two values contain the URL of your blog and your WP installation. In most cases they are the same but you still have to edit them if you imported a DB from a blog on another domain.

This is why I don't like WP if you flip sites very often. WP is wonderful to USE, but it SUCKS to move to another server. Now I know some of you pros will chime in and "poo poo" what I just said, but most people are not pros. It can be a nightmare trying to get WP set up correctly on another server after you sell that blog. Just sayin'. I prefer HTML sites that have a smart CSS template running behind the scenes. Could not be easier to set up on a new server and you get nice, clean, non-bloated code for the search engines to gobble up.

    John,

I agree with you: flipping WP sites could be a nightmare if someone is not comfortable with phpmyadmin. That database thingy can be intimidating

If you ever need help with moving a WP site - PM me and I will be glad to help you.

For the rest of the world...? Maybe I should write a short How To Move a WP site after selling it type of (free) report.

That's a very nice offer, thank you! And by all means, write up a 'How To' and put that sucker in the WSO section. It will sell, I have no doubt.

Make an installtion on an existing sub domain of yours. Then download both the install and databse. Then reupload to each domain you wish to do the install on. I have one of those with all my stuff so it makes for easier install of next blog.

Yes ... you can configure one blog and then in cpanel, zip all the files and then export the database. Upload the zip to next root domain and unzip, create the database for the new blog and import the database, change the url and password in the database and it's ready to post. Takes me about 10 minutes. Takes newbies more time

My suggestion - use Wordpress MU

You can place all the plugins into it so when you create new blogs the same plugins are already insalled and activated.

You can also have the same theme for all your blogs.

You can then grab a domain mapping plugin and link each new blog to its own domain in seconds.

Before going with WP Cloner by Mass Automation, please read the reviews. I've heard that their customer service is terrible.

Here's one review for example: WPCloner, WPManagerDX
