Is article marketing necessary?

I don't write too many articles, so I am wondering if I am wasting my time trying to promote my site if I don't write and submit articles to directories.
Is it necessary to use articles as a way to get more traffic or can one be successful without getting into articles?

    It is not necessarily necessary.

However, it is a tremendously effective source of FREE, laser targeted traffic... So, the choice is ultimately yours.

Article marketing is not the only way to promote or get traffic to your site, there is lots of other ways, but in my own personal opinion, article marketing is one of the best ways.

If its necessary, its a necessary evil in my book..I actually hate article writing and have purchased some that I felt to be really low quality and not exactly on target to the niche like I think they should be. If you are struggling to write articles and don't want to hire someone to do it, this has worked for me...I turn on a video camera or just a voice recorder and blurt out what's on my mind...I'll then turn it into a video or slideshow and even try to make it into an article to post on my blogs. Just a thought.

I know that many people make a lot of money with article marketing. This is a very good traffic source. However, I'm too lazy for article marketing. Also, I'm not a native english, so I need to hire a writer everytime a need an article. So I prefer other traffic sources that are faster and lazier . But it really depends on the person, there are many traffic sources out there, you just have to find out which one(s) that works for you and your business.

  • It depends on the site, niche, and objectives. Generally, it works really well for links, but you'll seldom get anything but a steady trickle of traffic from even the most popular articles. I have blog posts with 40,000 reads and no links from articles. My best performing article has a few thousand reads and maybe 500 clicks in an 18-month period. I'd recommend spending more time filling out your own properties with content, but you should put a few eggs in the article marketing basket just to test the waters; if nothing else, you get one-way inbound links.

Don't forget the real world, either. Business cards do wonders for selling offline services. I have one music-related site that gets a stampede of traffic every time I pick up my guitar. Family and friends will sometimes get you a little Facebook or Twitter buzz. Et cetera...

Even if you don't like to write, outsoursce the writing.

You don't have to do it. look here there is always
some WSO that is about writing articles for you.

There are two going on right now.

      Good luck.

I have to agree with this. Outsourcing is your best bet if you are not good at writing articles. To answer the question of the OP, well, having different traffic sources would be optimal for your campaigns so it wouldn't hurt if you add article marketing to your arsenal. =)

There are a lot of other methods to promote your site.

    Nothing is necessary.

Article marketing can be one of the best ways of getting laser targeted traffic to your site, as well as links - if you invest in quality and know how to leverage them.

If you can't, or don't like to write your own articles, then outsource them. But here is the key - don't be a skin-flint about it.

Pay for a pack of say 10 quality articles - and be prepared to pay USD18-22 each for them.

Leverage 1: By buying quality, SEO articles, you can then put them to article publishing and article distribution services - where they can be modified into multiple versions of the original and published numerous times, each time with your links intact.

Try doing this with cheap, poorly written articles, and you will not get the same result.

Leverage 2: Break good articles up into smaller blog posts, that of course include your keyword, and put them to a blog network.

Leverage 3: Record yourself reading the article and podcast it.

Leverage 4: Video yourself delivering the contents of the article and put it to YouTube or video distribution.

Leverage 5: Put in on your site in a /articles folder - good content that search engines love.

A good article goes a lonnnnnnng way. My clients prove it all the time!

      Kerry (perhaps a little biased!)

Article submission is basic promotion technique that is good in bringing direct traffic and also getting quality backlinks as well. Specially with the two top article directories, EZA and GoArticles. Backilinks from those two sites will help your sites to be indexed in Google quickly. I am telling it from personal experience.

There are many methods to get traffic. That's for sure.

But I don't think this way.

You've to know your marketing needs for your niche first. For example, what kind of prospects you want.

If you want 'intellect' prospects, I think it'd be better to opt for article marketing.

Using video marketing could be the wrong choice.

Correct me if I'm wrong... majority of book readers are not movie goers. Some even ban TV at home. That probably make them more intelligent.

yes, article marketing is a whole lot very important in addressing or promoting websites, but the truth is that you just don't maintain article marketing as the only strategy for promoting your products or websites; you need a whole more lot than that
    video blogging
    press releases
    social networking etc.
    wish you the best

I know plenty of marketers who don't do any article marketing. Some rely solely on paid advertising. Some get their product(s) listed on CPA networks and get an insane number of sales from super affiliates. Others use publicity. Article marketing accounts for about 2% of our overall traffic, so it's just one of many things that we do.

But for someone who has the know-how and the time and a very limited budget, it's a decent method to start earning.

Article marketing is just one method (out of many) to drive traffic to your site(s), so in response to your question it's not really necessary if you don't feel like doing it. As others have remarked, you can always outsource this fairly cheaply if you don't have the time and/or inclination to do it yourself, so there's really no need to get worked up over this at all.

Is it a good method, yes of course. The only method, hardly. One thing I do appreciate about article marketing is that you reach a critical mass over a longer time period then some other methods which seems to give you staying power.

I used to enjoy article writing but now I just don't have the time to research and prepare articles. In order for an article to be of any use to you it has to be well written. You have to capture the attention of the reader, draw them in with informative and relevant information and then persuade them to follow you to another site. You can't just write a whole bunch of words and throw it out there.

I much prefer to outsource the whole process now and then touch it up where I feel necessary. I primarily use articles for backlinks. The traffic is an added bonus. In the whole context though, online marketing is a process of using multiple tools to accomplish multiple tasks. To confine yourself to one aspect means you leave yourself weaker. Use every available avenue to build your business and that includes article marketing.

I think articles are important and if you don't like writing them, find someone who does.

I've heard of people writing articles and then forgetting about their site but continuing to make sales from their website where the articles pointed years later.

I personally love to write but if I ever got too busy to write, would get someone to do it for me.

        Hi,

According to me article writing is necessary and as far as article marketing concerns than it has to be done.

It is a way of getting targeted traffic to a web site and also great way to achieve backlinks. You can hire a content writer who can write articles for you targeting the most relevant keywords and than submitting to the directories that will get you targeted traffic for your site.

        Thanks!
