I made $3000 in 24 hours for 20 minutes work.

Hi Warriors,

Don't worry this isn't a pre-sell for a WSO.

I know that a lot of new people join here all the time and sometimes the odd success story helps people keep motivated so I thought I'd share one today.

You've probably caught the wave of people telling you that you should use video to promote your business, or that if you're not using video you're missing out big time - well I'm not into that, only you know whether it's right for you or not, but here's one way I used it to make a few bucks:

I did some niche research in one of my specialist areas - blogging and found a few common questions that people had.

These included things like:

"how do I install wordpress"
"how do I install wp plugins"
"how can I use rss to feed content to my blog"
"how can I use social bookmarking with my blog"
"how can I automate content building and social bookmarking"

So, basically there were a lot of people new to blogging, new to plugins and new to socialbookmarking.

I made a short video (20 minutes) showing how to do the things they were looking for. I used Camtasia for this but there are other ways to do it.

I ran a WSO to get some testimonials.

I broke the video into short (1-2 mins) sections for each sub topic within it and created 6 smaller videos.

I uploaded the snippets to Youtube and that was it.

The WSO sold over 100 copies of the video and Youtube brought in constant traffic from day one.

I made $3000 in the first 24 hours and have made money continuously since that day.

This was a 20 minute - unedited video.

Nothing except my knowledge and camtasia was required for this, there was nothing for people to buy to follow my advice and there was no fluff or filler.

now..... I want to give you an insight into how you could use this strategy to massively help any niche you're working in.

Consider what I've just told you and then think about this:

If I was to want to build a LOT of links to a new website and I knew that ideally those links would be from lots of other (related) websites and would ideally keep increasing over time - how could I use this technique to do that?

...............

...............

If you were to do the same as I did, BUT aswell as the video you offered Wordpress templates themed for a particular niche (you can get these created for under $100) and package the information as a "How to create a themed recipe niche website that builds on auto-pilot and uses the power of social bookmarking to promote itself on auto-pilot"
Do you think you could sell any? Do you think you could give it away?

If you consider that your desired outcome is links - you can give this stuff away.

So your customer gets a template (or set of templates) and a video showing how to install it and set it up so that it builds and promotes itself on auto-pilot - FOR FREE!

If you haven't worked it out - you include a link to your site in the template, so that every page they create (on auto-pilot) has a link to your site.

This way you get lots of people auto-building continuously growing themed blogs on which every page provides a keyword rich link back to your site.

I've done this and had over 100,000 links back to my site within a month.

And there's nothing here that you couldn't do yourself.

And that's just ONE strategy for getting lots of links - and even get people to pay to for the pleasure.

I hope you find some inspiration in there.

Regards,

Andy

Excellent idea and description Andy. Thanks for sharing.

One question though ... if you provide cliam to your (free) customers/takers that "... niche website that builds on auto-pilot and uses the power of social bookmarking to promote itself on auto-pilot" ...

... that doesn't really work for them though does it! If they use the same idea, they'll be doing their own theme with their own links in there. And if they use your theme, they won't benefit from the viral effect.

Nevertheless, yours is an excellent linkbuilding idea coz soooo many people will use your niche theme reagrdless.

    Thanks again

      Hi Sami,

Not sure I get what you mean.

I'm saying that you give these to people in your niche and show them how to get it automated so that the content and bookmarking are automated. If they use your theme - which should be an easy decision then you get a link every time a new post gets entered (when you set these up right that can be 30 times a day or more).

If they don't use your theme for some reason, then you just become their hero and make whatever money you charged.

        OK, got it.

I wasn't sure if you were actually telling your customers that they too can get automatic backlinks ... but you're not doing that. You're only giving them the benefits of automated content and social boomarking.

    Sami - exactly.

Marcus - You might be right, some people will still find reasons why they can't do it.

In reality I made much more than the $3000 but I didn't want to make people get put off by an 'unreal' number.

I also sold PLR to the video a few weeks later and made another few grand, but that's beside the point I'm trying to make with this thread

I just wanted to share one of my little strategies that anyone can use in multiple ways, whether for links or money and in any niche.

People are always saying how difficult it is or how hard you have to work, and while I'm completely an advocate of working hard for what you want - I just want to remind people that it can also be easy and quick too.

Henry- I think I missed something. Are you saying that the videos you sold in the WSO were hosted on YouTube?

I like your idea on the templates, but it kind of has the same vulnerability that article marketing has doesn't it? In the sense that we have no way of protecting our bio box when someone uses our articles, there is no way of protecting the link back to your site in the template.

How are you encouraging the users of your templates to leave your link intact? Are you somehow incentivizing that link or just figuring enough will leave it that it is worth your while?

      Hi Don,

No - the videos I sold were hosted on my server. The small snippets I used to promote the big (20 minute) video were on Youtube.

As for the templates and people not wanting to leave the link intact - I don't care.

If you're doing this to sell the templates - you make money on the front end anyway, but yes, if you're doing it solely for links you are relying on people leaving the link.

I have no interest in spending my time worry about whether people will try to rip me off and remove the links I ask them to keep in exchange for free templates.

This technique is so powerful when done well that it's not worth wasting time worrying about the people that won't do what you want.

The power in this technique is twofold:

1 - There is a lot of reciprocity involved if you're giving them this stuff for free, and most people are generally honest and won't go to the effort of removing your link.

If you really care about that stuff you can either encrypt it or have it need to call to your server to get the files.

      I don't do either.

2 - When they DO use it, the power is massive and even just one person doing this make it worth the cost.

So many people come here looking for ways to make money and get traffic and links - but they're completely focused on getting things for themselves. When you flip the situation around and work in a way that you're empowering other people to make money and the side effect is that it helps you - it's not hard to get good results.

Wow, Andy, you are an internet marketing studzilla! That is really brilliant.

And as for people removing your link - I know it's not your biggest concern, but realistically, since you are targeting newbies in a non IM niche, many of them will not really be aware of the link or bother to remove it or even know HOW to remove it.

When we talk about making $3,000 with 20 minutes work I think it's really important to understand a key point.

The product you created was based entirely around what you knew prospects wanted AND you provided exceptionally valuable information at a great price.

The amount of effort you expended is not the issue...the amount of value you provided is.

You usually get rewarded...and you should get rewarded...based on a combination of how well you appeal to the desperate wants of your market and the value you provide.

    Andy,

You already know my thoughts on this strategy as we've
discussed and refined it during a few phone calls; and we
have used it a number of times on our joint projects.

I would point out one potentially misleading aspect of your
original post.. it's not a 20 minute job. Yes, you can generate
phenominal amounts of profit from a 20 minute interview, but
the market research will take time, the sales copy doesn't
write itself and setting up a sales delivery process takes time
too. So, I'd suggest setting aside maybe 3 to 4 hours.

      Hi John,

Yeah, the title was a little tongue in cheek. I was doffing my cap to the funny thread titles we see here sometimes. In reality, yes there was research time but as I am always doing research I didn't actually dedicate special time to it, I just wanted to share the information by making a video. Since I actually earned more than I stated, I figured the 20 minutes could stay, otherwise I'd have to actually think about what factors were involved and their timings and effective roi - an as you know - I'm way too lazy for that

      Andy
p.s yes you did miss telephone call from me recently. I keep moving around so I wasn't sure of what time it was where you are.

Techsmith has gobs of training videos on their product for your learning pleasure

Tutorials for Getting Started with Camtasia Studio

also to repeat for those that don't/can't get Camtasia the "Jing" project allows you to do sweet screen captures too

Jing Project: Visual conversation starts here. Mac or Windows.

They have free hosting(limited to 2GB) or you can store the file on your HDD and upload elsewhere.

"We are also including a complimentary Screencast.com account with 2 GB of storage and 2 GB of transfer bandwidth per month."

Works great, just not as full blown-whizbang-feature-packed as Camtasia

    hey Andy,

Great post. Often times people underestimate their own knowledge. Some people think that just because they can do something everybody else knows how to do the same thing.

I struggle with that also. It took me a very long time to realize that the knowledge I had most other people did not. So, if you can put your knowledge into words or into a video you can easily have a product by the end of the day.

Great Post Andy, thanks so much for sharing.

Not to be nitpicky, but you said,

"I did some niche research in one of my specialist areas - blogging and found a few common questions that people had."

I assume you are not counting research time, correct?

    The research you did,

    1. Was that visiting forums and starting a new thread titled, "Tell me your most pressing questions"

    2. Searching search engines for "most asked questions about wordpress"

    3. Visiting blogs and asking the owner what questions he or she get asked the most?

    4. All of the above?

    5. None of the above?

I'm no Sherlock Homles so I would like some guidance for the best and quickest ways to find the questiosns.

    Thanks,

    Jim Stiner

      Doesn't Google;

      A. Look poorly on widget/template link building schemes?

      B. Devalue site wide links?

      C. Value links for RELATED websites?

The whole template gig is kinda old school like recips and poor article marketing strategies and while it may give a little love... not exactly a strong link building program IMHO

      ...just sayin'

        I second that opinion.

Then again, there's more to life than making money. Guess I don't need it and certainly not desperate for it.

hmmm. $3K in 24 hrs = $3K x 365 days = 1,095,000 per year, of course, minus 25% for taxes = appx $750K per year. Minus whatever costs.

What I don't get is the "made xxx in 24hrs for 20 minutes work" ??? Guess it's the Masters degree in Mathematics that has me thinking 20 minutes = 1/3 of an hour x 24 = 72 cycles @ $3K per cycle = $216K per day if you maximized = $78,840,000 per year...

        yeah right...

Beware, straight stalker... Hey guy, you forgot the "s" before "talker"...

Hey - you have a right to your opinion, it's a free world (most of it).

I already explained that the title was a homage to the ones we see here - it was tongue in cheek - but true.

I'm not selling anything, I'm not proclaiming anything - I'm just sharing something that worked that I know almost anyone can do.

I don't spend all my time doing this - I'm way too lazy and I have much higher purposes than looking for money.

$3k is not a lot and I have MUCH higher revenue businesses, but since all I was doing here was sharing something - no strings attached, I don't really understand why you would post a critical negative response.

I'm not evangalising a technique and I'm not saying that this example is what I do as my usual strategy or that it can't be improved on.

I'm very much for people coming up with their own unique and profitable ways of making money - I also realise that some people just need the occasional chunk of example detail to remind them of things they may have forgotten or to remind them to consider what they're doing.

Nothing more to it than that.

I'm not selling anything or telling anyone this is some leading-edge link building technique - I have much more effective strategies than this. I was simply sharing something that had worked - in case it helped a fellow warrior think in a new way about what they're doing.

Maybe you misunderstood my intentions - I'm not telling anyone to do this and I'm not beating my chest about a few thousand bucks - I'm not a guru and I don't play one on TV.

Rather than post critical negativity - why not post something new-school in your own thread to help people. You're promoting SEO services so it might even help your business. I'm not here to try and sell anything, I'm just sharing information.

Andy, we know who you are. At least those of us who have been around for some time. We know the intent... you're for real. You just like to stir the pot a little to get people to think for themselves and look at things a bit differently.

          I appreciate it immensely.

Thanks for all you add to this forum.

    Hey Andy,

I really enjoyed this post. I try to find one good post like this b/c they motivate me when I'm not getting the results I want.

I think seeing other people as a success can either motivate you or dissuade you. It just depends on how bad you want it. Those who are success-oriented will eat this stuff up.

Cheers and Have a Great Day!
