Content Managment Systems

I don't know what system that is, but it is similar in design to Omniture. If you have the money, Omniture delivers big time. Here are some sites using Omniture:

Those sites all convert in the double digits which Schwans converting at 47.2% in November 2009 (source: Neilsen ratings). I don't see the sites you mentioned in the Neilsen ratings at all so I don't know why you would consider them the "larger sites." The "larger sites" all use inhouse solutions or Omniture (PayPal is an Omniture user for instance).

Other Omniture clients include:

Ebay, AOL, Wal-mart, Microsoft, Neiman Marcus, Oracle, General Motors, Sony and HP

Those are the "larger sites" that use a CMS.

Don't bother contacting Omniture without already having some decent traffic, a decent conversion rate and at least $20,000/year to spend on their CMS which is their bare minimum. Getting those kinds of conversion rates means using their entire suite which is going to run you in the six figures.

Don't waste your money. Drupal and Plone both kick serious butt, and they both run tons of very large, very busy, very sophisticated sites. Oh -- and they're both free.

Really? I thought Drupal was for sites that lose money.

What sites using Drupal are even in the black?

Complex is very different than making money. He listed sites that make a lot of money and this forum is about making money, so I thought that was the criteria.

Beyonce makes pretty decent scratch. Her site runs on Drupal. I could name others but I suspect you're joking... nobody could be that ignorant.

If you've got Wordpress experience you should be experienced enough to take both Joomla and Drupal for a test drive. If you have a host running Simple Scripts or Fantastico, creating a directory and setting up a folder with a default install for each should only take a few minutes. Then set aside an afternoon and play with each of them and take a look at the tools and tutorials available for each.

There's no point in someone else recommending a CMS if YOU don't feel comfortable working with it.

I did exactly what I described above about 3 years ago and at the end of the afternoon I could at least work in Joomla. I couldn't wrap my head around Drupal, although since then I've worked on some Drupal projects where someone else was doing the heavy lifting and find it to be a great CMS, just as long as I'm not the one making it do stuff!

Joomla is very good (and free) but one issue I have found with it is that the URLs generated for individual pages are not search engine friendly. There are commercial extensions out there that claim to fix this problem, but I have yet to try any of them.

Apart from this single issue, Joomla is very powerful, easy to use once set up and has strong support available for both the CMS itself and third party extensions.

Yeah. I betcha she'd be nothing without her Drupal site. Good thing she went with a CMS winner!

Don't forget the Queen of Jordan or that Dukes of Hazard Flemish TV station. They both make good bank too... I'm sure it's all due to their Drupal sites.

Are you the one who was pitching the $20,000 CMS upthread?

The Onion runs on Drupal. Whitehouse.gov runs on Drupal. Sony Music's MyPlay runs on Drupal (as do most Sony artist's sites). Lots of huge sites run on Drupal, which I am willing to bet is vastly superior in every way to your overpriced commercial CMS.

By the way, Quixstar.com is down as I write this. They're definitely getting their money's worth!

The Schwann's site is full of errors and bad links, and the HTML doesn't even validate! 20 large a yaer for invalid html -- what a joke! Oh well, what do you expect from Microsoft-driven platforms if not overpriced, underperforming junk.

I say stick to Wordpress. It has all what you need for what you are asking for. I know, people will dismiss my post and advise all kind of complicated unfriendly CMS... There are some major news and tech sites using Wordpress as a CMS platform and you never even noticed... It is a big mistake to look at Wordpress just for blogging.

Check this site I developed in Wordpress for the Romanian market: Strategic. Întreaga industrie de comunicare. Un singur portal.

Doesn't it have the functionality you need within the post and categories?...

I'm not pitching anything.

Schwans was the highest converting site on the Internet in November 2009 (Neilsen stats).

The Neilsen stats for highest converting site are only collected for sites that can demonstrate over 500,000 unique visitors per month.

That means Schwans processes at least 250,000 sales per month! That is 8,333 sales per day or 347 per hour or 5.78 sales per minute. That's one new sale every 10 seconds. They make a lot of money.

The last I heard, your Whitehouse.gov was still slightly in the red. The only companies I can see Drupal bragging about that are in the black are NOT running Drupal for their main site. They are running it for some tiny developer mini-site.

Drupal is NOT and never claimed to be an eCommerce CMS. In fact, they cater to governments, non profits, entertainers and non-profit companies.

I went through the first five pages of their brag clients. I couldn't find a single for-profit in the black company listed that is actually using Drupal for their main site. Not a single one.

Every single Omniture company listed is in the black and massively profitable. If you have never heard of ProFlowers, Quixstar or Shwans, then have you heard of PayPal? They use Omniture.

Have you ever heard of Adobe? They not only use Omniture. They ARE Omniture.

Still think I'm pitching? So you think I own Adobe?

Omniture clients include REAL eCommerce companies like AOL, Time Warner, Microsoft, Maytag Corporation, Half.com, Media News Group, and VeriSign.

Seven of the top 10 converting eCommerce sites on the entire Internet (70% of them) use Omniture according to Neilsen ratings which is a pretty well respected research firm. Have you heard of them?

Drupal boasts Whitehouse.gov and the Queen of Jordan along with some musicians. The only real eCommerce companies they list are using Drupal on some tiny microsite devoted to developers of Atom code for some non-profit consortium.

It's not even the same league.

I don't work for Adobe nor do I have any kind of relationship with them. I'm pointing out the fact... just the facts. I also have no relationship with Drupal.

And I'm not joking. Omniture is the eCommerce CMS of choice for companies making a sale ever 10 seconds. They own 70% of the top 10.

What percentage of the top 100 does Drupal own? 0%. That's right. 0%. Not a single one!

A CMS is just a way to manage content... thus "content management system."

You put your sales pages, products, articles, or encyclopedia entries (whatever your content is) into the system and it manages creating the actual HTML pages for you.

Ironically you went to Wikipedia for your answer. Wikipedia may be the best known CMS in existence.

Wordpress is a CMS. So is Joomla, Drupal and technically all forum software... including the software running this forum.

True. I assumed that this is a forum about making money so I focused on the leading CMS for making money.

Who knows? Maybe they want to create Liberpedia.com to compete with Conservapedia.com. In which case, Drupal, Wordpress, Joomla and Omniture would all be vastly inferior to Wiki.
