Doubling your sales % with Twitter

Unlike most of my posts, this one is pretty short :-) Obviously, Twitter is a great way to build a decent list fast. However, you still want to get them on your mailing list as quickly as possible. How do you do that? Tweet a link to a squeeze page with a giveaway. That's the part everyone knows.

Here's why my twitter followers tend to buy 2-3 times more than my mailing list (i.e. if my list overall buys at 5% twitter followers buy at 15%... even if they aren't on my mailing list!) Basically, I send a tweet about whatever product I launched or am selling (this has to be your product) and TELL THEM NOT TO BUY. Why? Because they are getting a special deal. By showing them the regular page first, they know that they are getting a special deal.

The next day, I'll tweet the link to a special sales page welcoming 'my loyal twitter followers' and giving them at least a 10-25% discount. Now, I know that the discount lowers my sales price, but the sale % is so much higher that I make much more.

By the way, anyone good with web design could use a coupon code instead of a whole other page, but the specially made page makes a big difference (I think). Plus, I'm good at writing and social marketing, not web design. Hope that helps!

For those that read my facebook tip, I have a separate sales page for my fans on facebook too. Hope that helps!

Great tip, Sean. I could see this also working with affiliate products. Instead of a discount on the purchase (unless the product owner allows it), you could throw in some valuable bonuses that most people wouldn't get through the regular affiliate pre-sale page. Is there any particular reason why you made a point to say "this has to be your product"?

I said that is has to be your product for 2 reasons. One, you can change an affiliate sales page (obviously) and... Two, many people promote products that they haven't tested. It only takes one bad recommendation to tank your reputation with your list, but you if try out the product first go for it. :-)

Thanks for your clarification, Sean. I think it's insane whenever someone recommends or tries to sell a product as an affiliate without first having tried it themselves. It's like telling a friend to go see the latest movie saying "Hey, Joe, Avatar is a great movie! You should totally go see it." when you know you haven't seen it yourself yet and have no idea how good it is. All you know is everyone else is talking about it.

But, if one actually tries the product themselves first (as I always do), then I could see your tips working very nicely. So, again, thanks for sharing!

Sloanjim, Twitter can work for business selling just like any other social media. The benefit of Twitter is hundreds (or thousands) of people will see your brief message, all at once, rather than sending a mass-email. And if it shows up in the public timeline, you have the ability to add more followers without even trying, if they like the post you make.

But it's difficult to sell directly from a Twitter "tweet". The best way, in my opinion, to use tweets is to send people to another site (such as your blog) where they can read a much longer message than 140 characters. It's a more non-intrusive way to get people to see what you want to show them. But if you simply send link after link after link, odds are your Twitter won't help you much, as people on Twitter are there to socialize and contribute, not just be marketed to.

If you do it smart, Twitter has been known to dramatically increase orders, list subscribers, blog readers, etc. You can go to your local Barnes and Noble and pick up a book on utilizing Twitter for business purposes. There are several. There's even a "Twitter Marketing for Dummies" book, which I personally bought a few weeks ago to see if there was anything I was missing. There's a ton of useful information in it, especially for someone not entirely familiar with Twitter. Joel Comm also wrote a book called "Twitter Power: How to Dominate Your Market One Tweet At A Time", which is worth checking out.

Earning from Twitter, in the beginning will be challenging, but one of the most effective ways I know, that will work are:

      1. Increase your followers, and please do not use programs or software that automatically and randomly increases your followers for the sake of making the numbers.

You will want targeted followers because then you know that these people are in line with your interests and passion. So when you tweet on a product, that will increase your chances of making more sales.

      2. Another way is by giving away a free product. It could be your own ebook or video tutorial that you're giving away. So when you tweet and your followers see that, hey they could get something for free, why not just check it out. They will still click on your links. This is more for the long term, because they will obviously opt in to your free product. The plus point is that now you have them on your mailing list.
