I'm very new in this biz I'd like to have your comments on this: which way yoy prefer to go:

1. popular niche with hard competition or
2. not so popular niche, but good amount buyers still.

which will do better?

    I would advise you to go with a competitive niche, cuz that's where the money is. However, you don't want to go broad. You want to go at least 3 levels deep.

    For example,
    Learn How To Fish - Too Broad
    Learn How To Fish In 3 Days - 2 Levels Deep
    Learn How To Fish In 3 Days Without Using The Latest Fishing Technology - 3 Levels Deep

      I choose a not-so-competitive subniche within the more competitive niche when possible.

    If youre new at this game I would advise that you try a less competitive marketplace to begin with. Get a feel for what works and what doesnt. Learn your strengths and weaknesses. Work at a more achievable goal to begin with then think about taking the big boys on in more competitive marketplaces once you become more established.

    Most important factors are...

    1. You identify a significant buying opportunity - that is, the niche shows proven buying activity around the product or service you are going to offer. Wrapped up in this, of course, is how much they will spend. For example, if you want to sell your own information products, you want a niche that is a) spending money on infoproducts and 2) buying higher-end infoproducts as well as $27 ebooks

    2. The niche is big enough to make it worthwhile. That doesn't mean huge, especially if there is lots of buying activity

    3. You identify a weakness using competitive analysis that allows you to cost effectively market to that niche. It could be one of the busiest niches online, but there is often a way to further segment and target with lower cost keywords, affiliate relationships, publicity, etc...
