So I have found a keyword that is a top level domain I can use. I have a niche physical product I want to sell.

The name "red blue widget " .com is available.
Using MNF there is no competition in this specific country, but has a demand for it.

How do I go about ranking for it? ie

red blue widget.com
Description tag> red blue widget india
Keywords tag> red blue widget india, or red blue widget, india?

Any ideas guys?

If you've found the keyword, and the domain is available AND there is no competition - I'd dig a little deeper and figure out WHY there is no competition. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but would suggest that possibly even tho there is a demand for your red blue widget, maybe people wont pay for it.

    Dig a little deeper first.

Then if you decide to go ahead, set up WP on your site and plugin All In One SEO. Dont put india on it's own.

Your keyword research will tell you what to optimise for. but I wouldnt put india on it's own as a keyword.

the product niche is good, only very minimal searches but it is what I need. So I have no worries spending 10bucks on a domain and 1-2hr of my time to set it up etc. The risk is easily out weights the reward.

I don't want to get a com.au domain but rather just the .com

Should I just get the .com.au as it is more optimised for the SEO in Australia, I reall won't be selling overseas.

Having said that you can get a site that is just .com and it will rank over a .com.au etc and vice versa. Can't you.

There is an option in Google's webmaster tools that lets you select which country(or the world) you want to ideally rank for.
By default it is set to (worldwide) but if you want to target .. say.."Spain" and you select it.. You'll see your rankings become more precise and higher in that country while it will more likely drop for worldwide searches.

If you are only interested in our Aussie market then I'd got for the .au. IMO I feel it's more dedicated and more likely to rank, not only that but Aussies seem to be in the habit of typing .au - but if they are both available I'd get both and redirect one to the other.

My .au site it ranking VERY well - I'm only interested in the aussie market and it's a selling point to my target market of offline clients.
