Has your check ever been denied?

Recently I got my first check from CJ in the amount of $180. However they were't able to cash it at wal mart ( I don't have a bank account at the moment.) I've cashed a clickbank check there before so I don't know what the problem would be.

My phones currently down and there was a number to call on the receipt to find out why it was declined but I can't until later today.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, do you think it's just a problem with wal mart or the check itself? They took the clickbank one so I'm thinking it's a check problem and I probably won't see that money for whatever reason.

Kinda kills that good feeling of getting your first checks

Get yourself a bank account. It will make everything so much easier!

    Treat it like a business.

I agree I definitely will but bank account or not I don't understand why a wells fargo check from good ole CJ would ever have a problem being cashed.

As Kay said, they probably only cash checks like government checks -- and probably payroll checks from local businesses. But they're less likely to cash a check from out of town -- no matter what bank it's drawn on -- because they're not a bank.

Banks typically hold your funds until the check clears (or your account needs to have enough cash to cover a check if you cash it), so banks don't worry about bad checks or forgeries. If the check is bad, the person cashing or depositing it loses out, not the bank.

A check-cashing place doesn't have that luxury. If the check is bad, they lose the money. So they're a whole lot more careful about what kinds of checks they cash.

        cheers,
        Becky

One other option is to use a check cashing business. It's not nearly as good as using a bank as they do charge a healthy fee - but at least you can cash the check.

Most retailers will not cash a third party check. That's not unusual.

The check wasn't declined because of a CJ problem - it's likely WM simply restricts third party checks to certain accounts such as government checks.
I'm very surprised you could cash a CB check at WM.

It is hard to imagine how anyone operates a business without a bank account - must be complicated.

Good to know, thanks to all who replied. And yeah I know no bank account sucks, but the bank I was with seemed to screw me over too much, so I closed it just recently. I'll have to open another up somewhere else.
