Why does this happen...?

Why do i keep getting people or rather something (is it some sort of bot or whatever?) constantly entering a fake name and email addy to get a free report?

It's like 4-5 submits every day...at 1-2 second intervals..and then it stops....and then starts again..

And can i do anything about it? I ask that because i was thinking of putting in a captcha, but then conversions would drop...

    figure out the IP it's coming from and ban it. problem solved unless they start using a proxie.

    Hi,

    I believe it's a bot or bots doing that. You really should go ahead with the captcha; I don't really believe that putting in a captcha will hurt your conversions.

      Don't get me started on these.

      It seems it's almost a daily recurrence that I want to smash my computer screen due to them!

        Yep. I had a bad day a couple of months ago and sent of some nasty emails to the site admins over those. LOL Shame on me, but seriously! GRRR!

    Cheers guys! Yeah the unreadable captcha's...so hard to figure out! Especially now i'm getting older and my eyesight is failing me...lol.


    It's a bot i think because my email client cant figure out the ip address...

    Yep, added a readable captcha to the form, i guess if they want the report that badly, and i've presold it good enough, then it's a win/win situation!

      In my opinion, a captcha would increase your authority, possibly increasing conversions.

      People see captchas on Google, Yahoo, and other major names in the internet, so if you use the same thing I would think that it would up your authority in their eye.

    Yea! It also happens at my site. Someone is generating fake signups. It generates the same username, first name and last name and it is always from Afganistan but the city can be from anywhere in the world. EI; Afghanistan - New York.
