What is your opinion of getting Domains with Company names in them...

for example since it is in the news, the Apple iPad.

Do the big companies legal departments often come after you or would you have to have grown into a rather large site. I thought I remember someone on here saying that HP came after their domain with a product name in it.

What say you who have been around the block?

Most search engines won't even you let keywords for trademarking and they definitely will hit you up for the domain name~ you can get away with that with less brand power~ maybe

Apple just took 16 domain names away from one of the posters here on the forum.

He thought he could get away with using the name and lost big time.

You will probably have the same results.

Wow that was fast! so using our Apple iPad example so I am clear...if you use a domain with the word Apple in it (obviously not meaning the fruit) or the word iPad they will probably come take it, right.

And how exactly do they "take it", go by of your registrar?

If you're lucky, you'll get a cease and desist order. If you're not so lucky, you'll be faced with a fine of $100,000.00 (standard) and/or a lawsuit. Do not register trademark domains unless you have written permission from the trademark owner.

Thanks guys....I don't know what I was thinking last night, just excited to make some more money I guess...I have come up with a domain that will work just as well for my purposes and have registered that. I don't really need to mess with will they or won't they, just need a site up. I do have a trademark domain and have never been bothered and don't think I ever will (knock on wood) maybe if I jumped ahead of them in the SERP's, lol

******But the biggest thing I learned today was that I should probably go and trademark a couple of "sweet" domains/names that I plan to brand in the near future. Just went and checked and one of the names is now dead as of last year...I would be heartbroken if I ever had to give up either one of those phases or the domains.
