Does anyone have this problem?

Hello, I'm a newbie to affiliate marketing. I have a few websites out there and I think it's doing something called the Google dance. I'll be #1 or #3 on the first page, then will drop back to page 3 or even page 10 for a week or so, then come back. It keeps going back and forth. How long does Google do this and can you stop it?

There is nothing you can do about it. Just keep building links. It will stabilize and settle out on page 1 if you consistently continue building links.

Yeah, keep building links and try not to look at your rankings for awhile. Get used to building links everyday because that will be part of your job.

Your stuff will google dance for a bit but will settle. The important thing is to just keep going.

You could also disappear from the SERP's altogether for a short time. Do not worry if this happens. When it comes back it will stick. It's been my experience if it does drop, it won't be gone more that a few days.

I experience the Google dance all the time especially so when I am building links a lot. I used to get real frustrated but not anymore. I just continue to build more links and more niche sites so that I always have some sites not affected. And when the sites come back after the dance, they come back higher in ranking.

This is extremely common for new sites. Just keep building backlinks like everybody else has mentioned.

This little dance is basically a way for Google to test how serious webmasters are about their site. If the website owner has a site that gets great rankings quickly, and then the rankings drop like a stone, how does the owner react? Do they just give up and stop building links, or do they keep at it?

As long as you keep building links, it's going to be a "two steps forward, one step back" kind of deal.

I have read several of similar thread like this. For your site on the serps not being stable i probably think its called everflux. Last week i read an article which said Google Dance now does not exist but you see slight changes in your serps coz of the change in algorithms.

1:00pm - "YES! My sites in the top position"

1:23pm - "What the hell! Why is it at #5 now?"

1:58pm - "Alright! It's back up to the top spot!"

    2:20pm - "What?! #17??"

    Damn those Google moments...

It is really normal and there is nothing big you can do. However, keep building links and update the content of your website just add one article to your website and this will help you get back to #1 again quickly.
