What's with all the $1000 posts  These post have been popping up everywhere... $1000 in a month, a week, 24 hrs....just wondering why the number $1000... Why stop there...there is enough info on the the first page of this forum to make that 10 times over...if the desire is there....

I remember a story....no idea where I heard it, but it went something like this: A young man, newly married and just starting out in life was walking along a lake one day. He saw an older man fishing...as he got closer to the older man, he noticed that it was John Smith, a local self made multi millionaire...The young man realized this was his chance to find out how to make it in life...how to get rich...

So the young man walks over and says "excuse me Mr. Smith sir"? Mr Smith looks up and says "yes"
"Well, sir", says the young man..."I was wondering if you could tell me how to make it big in life?"
Do You really want to know, asked Mr. Smith? Yes replied the young man...I want to be rich...like you sir... "well said Mr Smith...are you really, truly sure you want to know?...
Starting to get agitated...the young man sad, "yes! I want to be rich like you...please tell me your secret!!!!

Mr Smith stood up...walked over to the young man and said "follow me" and Mr smith proceeded to walk out to the middle of the lake...Confused the young man just stood there...."come on boy!" said Mr. Smith...Get out here"

The young man walked to the center of the lake and stood next to Mr. Smith..."well, what's your secret...please tell me"...."ok if you really want to know...come closer..."

As the young man excitedly stepped forward Mr Smith punched him in the stomach, grabbed the young man by the hair and held him under the water...Mr. Smith pulled the young man up...as he grasped for breath, Mr smith put the young mans head back under the water....He repeated this 3 times...the final time Mr smith held the young mans head underwater longer than the previous 3 times...he then pulled the young man and dragged him to shore...

The young man...fighting for breath, and half passed out finally said.."what is wrong with you old man...you almost killed me...

Mr Smith got down on his knees, looked the young man in the eye and said...

" The last time I held you under the water...you didn't think I was going to let you back up? How bad did you want that last breath...how bad did you want to live...to push me off of you and come to the top....that's the desire you need to have too make it....that is how you succeed...go after your goal like you're fighting for your last breath....that's the secret....

      Great story Marc,

      Why $1000?

It could be they are so used to seeing zeros the temptation to now experiment with a 'one' is overwhelming. Hence the number 1 followed by multiples of what they are used to.

Having said that, tongue firmly placed in cheek, what seems to be missing from most of those posts is a lack of understanding that the money comes from trading something of value for the dollars received.

It's rarely, "What can I sell..." but rather "How can I make...", as if some 'system' is all that's required without the need to provide value. But even Adsense was conceived as a way to provide value for advertisers by giving them exposure.

      Why stop there?

Not enough experience being successful with the 'one' yet, I guess...

Because it's a nice round number -- the number itself brings order to chaos, gives hope where there is none -- plus, all those zeros just look great!

I loved that story, I have never heard it put quite like that but it is so true.

In order to be successful you can have all the information in the world but if you don't have the passion for success it just won't work.

    Hi,

Why 1000? because some people would like to earn only enough to live the lifestyle they want.

I wouldn't consider this a huge amount of money, but it is a big jump from several hundred to $1000 for many people as it is a change from 3 to 4 figures, and that represents a quantum leap in many people's minds. I think it represents the start of serious money for many people here, where this becomes more of an endeavor that can actually make you life-changing and job-replacing income instead of just "pocket" money. I believe it's all about perception, especially for someone who's unused to the idea and possibility of being able to make a full-time living off the internet.

Its not a huge amount of money but as the majority of Internet marketers here on this forum are pretty much people looking for financial independence/freedom, this number will appeal to them as this average person/forum user can lead a good sustainable living by earning $1000 or more per week.

$1,000 is a good number. $100 feels good in your pocket, but it doesn't go far. $1,000 isn't that much either, but it's enough to feel like you're GETTING somewhere.

The John Smith story--I've heard it before, except Smith's role was played by Aristotle, and the young man wanted to be as wise as the great philosopher. The multi-millionaire version of the story is probably more relevant here, though.

The human mind can be a very powerful (or destructive) thing, depending on how you harness and utilize it. That $1,000 could be just a drop in the bucket and the starting point for someone who is ambitious and has an abundance mentality, whereas that same $1,000 might as well be a million dollars to someone who cannot envision being able to make this much through the internet.

That's a pretty awesome story and sooo true to the reality of how this whole "success" thing works. Kinda ties into pressing on even after failures too.

That's another common theme that I often see other than what you were saying about people that are looking to $1000 in XXX timeframe. Is that so many people get discouraged after they try something once and it doesn't work out...

Either because they didn't have that burning desire to succeed, or it just wasn't for them or whatever the reason... People then close their minds off to everything and just give in to that feeling of "oh well, I guess success just isn't for me..." which is sad because often they were just about to succeed before they gave up...

But that's a story for another day...

As to answer your question... I think it's just because $1,000 is a nice round number that while somewhat big, is still realistic in peoples minds.

You'll only ever achieve what you believe... and some people just can't believe or see themselves making like $10,000... $100,000 or $1,000,000 in a short period of time - if at all.

1,000 has magical powers, just by repeating the lesser part of the number, the real advantage of the primary number increases by multiples of 10.

While it is nice to dream about big figures, you have to ask yourself deep down whether you actually believe this is possible? You see, there's a difference between just saying/knowing something, and believing it with all your heart. It's this burning belief that will cause you to take action and overcome any and all obstacles in your way, whereas just having the knowledge that it's possible isn't going to do you any good.

      Love the story...

I think $1,000 is a nice round number that's both believable and large enough to make a positive change in many peoples' lifestyle.

For some, it's a mortgage payment. For others, it's the difference between driving a beater and a Beemer. For many, it's enough to cover the basic necessities or put a nice chunk in the retirement account.

Most people have had the experience of receiving $1,000 at some point in their life. It might have been a paycheck, a school grant, an insurance claim payment or backing the right horse. Whatever the source, people believe they can have $1,000 because they've done it before. If they've done it before, they can do it again.

A very, very bright man named Stuart Lichtman has termed this "cybernetic transposition" and has developed an entire success methodology around using past successes (both real and 'enhanced') as a means of achieving future goals.

Wonderful story, Marc. You really need to have that burning desire and passion to succeed, and this is not just mere hot air. You see this same behavior pattern repeated in just about any success story you care to examine, and this includes sports athletes like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant. They didn't just become the top athletes in their respective fields overnight, they had this burning desire to succeed and beat everyone else, and it showed in their discipline and willingness to make sacrifices, especially in the beginning.

I notice these things usally go in phases...50 a day was a big topic , then 100 a day...lokks like $1000 is the new $100

The point is the information to do any of it is there....we just need to have the passion to take action and achieve out goals

    Hey Marc,

That was a very good story indeed. It truly takes you being tired of something so badly, that you will due anything to get out of it.

This goes for everything in life rather it's becoming wealthy, movie star, entrepreneur etc... You have to want it bad enough to where you will due just about anything to get it.

    Thank you again for sharing

If you have been into product creating and IM, you can do so much with $1000. Rather it be advertising or outsourcing some work, that $1000 can take you far if you know how to use it.
