Changing Wordpress Slugs?

I was putting my about us page in wordpress, and I save it. Then I noticed a mistake, so I fix it, and saved it again. Now it says About-Us-2 So I changed the slug and re saved it, and now it says About-Us-3. I have continued to try to fix it, and I am up to About-Us-9

How do I stop this. I have changed the slug several times in the control panel, and in quick edit. There must me some kind of cache that needs to be deleted.

Thanks Glenn

    Hi Glenn,

I can't tell what's going on without seeing it, but if nothing else, you can always save the text, delete the current About Us page and make a new one.

I had this happen to me the other day, I dont know if theres a bug in the latest version.
Is it creating multiple pages or is there still only one about us page?

If there's only one but the numbers are still being generated, delete and start again as Terrie suggested.

Go to the page you want to edit by pressing <pages> then the <edit> button under your selected page.

Just under the block at the top where you put your title you will see a line that starts out Permalink: h ttp://w ww.mybloginfo/about-9

Look to the immediate right of that permlink and you will see a button marked <edit>.

I suspect that button will fix your problem. Of course, after you make your change don't forget to hit <okay>.

Okay, I've got my dashboard open and I see where you're at.

Go to <pages> and find the one you want to change. Press <edit> beneath that page. When the edit screen opens look toward the upper right corner of the screen where it says <screen options>. It is right under the black bar at the top of the screen where it has your admin name | Turbo | Log Out.

Press <screen options> now you will see a series of check boxes and one of those is "page slug" put a check mark in that box and close the screen options.

Now just scroll down the page until you find the small box marked "Page slug". It will have your slug installed and I believe that is where you make your change.

I am running All-in-one SEO and on my panel, I find the page slug right over the lengthy list of page revisions.

I would check the permalink structure setting in wordpress.

Hi, I have tried to delete it, but it still keeps racking up the numbers. I even deleted it, and left for a day, figuring whatever was holding the info, would purge, but it hasn't. I create a lot of sites using wordpress, so I am fairly familiar with it. I just thought someone may know something I don't. It's not permalinks, because I use the same on all my sites /%postname%

I know I have changed the url many times with the edit button, and sometimes it can be a little stuborn, but not like this.

It may be a clinch in the new edition of wordpress, because I did not mention it in the first post here. but I have two sites doing the same thing. When I could not fix the first site, I went to one of my others to see if I could figure it out, and now that one is doing the same thing.

I have never had this happen before, and no matter what I do, it won't go away. I guess I can live with it. It is just the about us pages on both sites, so I guess it's not the end of the world.

Thanks for all the advice anyway.
      Glenn

Where is it showing up at that you are seeing these numbers? In the address bar at the top of the page?

It shows up in the bar where I change the slug as soon as I save my changes, and in the address bar. I end up with mysite.com/about-us-7

I gave up, and will live with it. It is just the about us page. I think the moral of the story is to get it right the first time, and not have to redo the page. That's when the problem started.

I experimented with a junk site I have today, and it seems when I save a page as a draft, instead of publishing it, that's where the problem starts. I think that is what I did with this site. I won't do that again.

      Thanks for all the suggestions
      Glenn
