Paid Email Newsletters

Does anyone here run an email newsletter that they charge membership fees for? Specifically charge a LOT for? And what experiences are you willing to sure on the building of these lists?

I was just thinking about email lists and newsletters in general today and got to thinking about the numerous newsletters in the investment niche someone I know has subscribed to over the years. From what I've seen the fees in this niche range from around $300 to upwards of $5,000 per year.

But there was one in particular that really blew me away. It's about $3k per year and judging by the impact it had on the markets I'd say they had to have had at least several thousand subscribers. It's delivered roughly bi-weekly and it's usually no more than 1 or maybe 2 pages of plain text (nothing fancy, no HTML or anything to even make it look nice, just a plain old email).

Just thinking about it now it still amazes me that they make so much money for so little. Of course the value is all in the 'stock picks' they suggest. But still...

TBH, it is far easier to charge higher rates for a physically shipped product (even if could be sent as a PDF). People give physical stuff a higher perceived value.

That said, if you need to deliver stuff more timely, you'd be better off going with an online membership site with regularly updated video/audio content.

It's pretty rare to charge such crazy rates for a plain old newsletter, but I'm sure anything is possible in some high-end markets.

I agree with Rick. In this case you should consider physical products (DVD, CD, newsletter, etc).

It's not hard to work with physical products as many people think. Take a look on Kunaki's services: https://kunaki.com/
