Hey guys,
As the title of this thread reads, Ive just been asked for a review copy of my latest product by someone I dont know for promotional purposes. Im a bit reluctant to just hand it over. Could someone please offer some advice on this?

If you're reluctant, that's your answer.

Why would you send review copies to anyone who asks you too out of the blue?

Ralf, sorry mate, Ive never been in this position before, thats why Im asking. Ive just sent an email directing them to the free preview sample which I feel is sufficient. Hopefully this is adequate.

Im just trying to get a feel for what established marketers do in this situation.

    Allen's banned that for wso's.

How about asking for payment - and then offering a refund once the review is published? In other words - this will tell you if the person asking is just a freebie seeker, or is seriously intending to write a review and become an affiliate.

if the asker was a genuine reviewer/affiliate, I would expect them to give you more info - such as the site they intend publishing on, how they intend to promote their site, other products they are affiliates for, etc.

Just a straight forward "I want a review copy" type request sounds like a freebie seeker to me.

i wouldn't do it if its someone you dont know. Other story if its a person with reputation, and many posts and the person would ask you because he wants to write a review on his/her blog. I do this occasionally myself (not here, its not allowed here, but on other forums )

Johnny, politely decline, and just point them to your free sample. There are always freebie seekers in here asking for review copies, and I've had plenty of them. No need to be rude, just tell them in a matter of fact tone that you're not giving away review copies, and I think that should suffice.

I think if a product owner wants to give out review copies in exchange for testimonials (or whatever other reason) the product owner should contact people and ask them to review their product. I would not give a review copy to someone coming to me asking for one. I would seek out people and approach them to get reviews for my product.

offer a money back gaurantee if you dont already and then they can buy it with no risk. My experience is that few people ask for a refund if your product is what you say it is!

Ask him how he will be promoting your product. Maybe he has an opt-in list or perhaps owns a web site? But in reality...probably another freebie seeker.

Thanks for the heads up guys. I think Ive made the right decision. They've opted into my list, which indicates they've accessed the free sample.

Thanks for your comments, appreciate it.
