So...

There was something I'm sure a lot if you said.

In fact, you probably said it within the past month.

It was along the lines of...

"2010 is going to rock!!!"

That's great. You had the best of intentions.

Here's the real question. What have you actually done so far to make 2010 better? Or are you still doing (or not doing) the same old thing?

Saying the new year will be better means absolutely nothing unless you back it up with action.

The good news is that there are still 334 days (that's 91.5%) left in the year. It's not too late.

Be honest. How is 2010 really going, compared to what you were hoping for on January 1st?

All the best,
Michael

Actually, what I said was "2010 will be better" and I started toward that goal months ago. So far - it's not just better, but much better.

2009 was one of the worst years I've had for a LONG time - but I survived it without having to ask for help (lots of all nighters). By last summer my only focus was on getting through 2009 intact and moving ahead in 2010.

The economic downturn hit me hard on several income fronts so 2009 was survival - 2010 so far is a sense of accomplishments and greater peace of mind (and profit).

So far everything is still on track, I created a time table of 'things' I want to achieve in the first half of this year and have stuck to the plan.

I would love to report that I'm ahead of schedule, but being right on track is good enough for me right now.

This is my best year so far. I have earned nearly the whole of 2009's IM earnings in January. (Don't get too excited - only in the $1,000's)
This is due to the fact that I finally know what I am doing. I have cut out all the "Noise", unsubscribed from nearly every list. Visit this forum with more purpose now. I have very limited time so I manage my time well. I have not done this in the past.

What am I doing? I'm still deciding whether to let on or not. But basically I make my own products and market them.

I didn't say that so I am off the hook. I am starting a new life this year. IM is the smallest part of the changes in my life that will go on most of the year. I actually do not want to make a lot of money this year, If anything this is an implement in private year. (and this year has so far gone much better than I would have expected it to, I hope it continues.) with that said...

... 2011 is going to ROCK!

    Lol.

Kay - Yikes, sounds horrible. (You didn't ask, but we'll keep ya in our prayers).

For 2010? I'm losing a part-time job (I have a part-time job, a full-time daddy-at-home job, and I work as a magician for events whenever I feel like, well, working )soon, so that's a nice kick in the butt.

It's a great job I've had for over twelve years, but times are tough I guess.

So 2010? I get to spend more time with my family. Now I know it'll be a good year. (And that will rock.)

That's excellent! It sounds like most of us have actually DONE something, instead of just paying it lip service.

However, I am sure there are plenty of Warriors who proclaimed 2010 to be their year, but haven't done a single to make that so. But, again, it's not too late. January 1st is an imaginary construct people use. The truth is that a year is 365 days, and today can be your day 1 for the coming year!

As for me, I didn't make any predictions, but I'm happy to say in January I finally had a month where my income was up to where it was before my site was hacked. It took over a year to rebuild search engine trust and regain decent rankings.

I also made my first WSO, plotted out my member site upgrades (and sold around $2k in new memberships based purely on the coming changes I told my mailing list members about), marginally increased product sales as well, picked up the RAP script to start an affiliate program, I bought about 6-7 new domains that I'm going to put to use later in the year, and I more than doubled my affiliate income.

Not a bad start. Wonder what I could have done if I didn't hang out here so much.

May the most you hope for be the least you get!

I was cruising the Caribbean through the first week of Jan and kicked off new years on a boat. Started a little slow until I got my land legs back...then it was off like a rocket.

Started a new company, put out 2 new sites with a third on the way, got new JV deals with some big list owners (mailouts to some 14k just this weekend), increased daily signups dramatically, crosslinked all my new sites, created a new youtube channel now filled to the brim with friends/subscribers, partied my face off in Vegas for a week, and did it all in the last 2 weeks of January.

Next on the list, a massive video series to go up as WSO in the next few days, and then a private Vegas event hosted by myself with the help of one lovely Donna Fox for the most successful members of my WSO.

Also started my N.L.S. mastermind...for the high rollers of the IM market out there killing it as relative newbies.

If that wasn't enough somehow, I'm wrapping up an accounting degree, and a marketing degree at my university by mid year.

Oh, and started another niche project that is now getting a good rank and clickthrough to the ads, plus reader response and signups. Whew...

And most importantly, I've lost 8lbs already, and treadmill arrives tomorrow to finish off the rest I "resoluted" to lose.

      Keep Rocking,
      Ross Vegas!

      BONUS!
Just crossed $100 mark on my adsense so I get another check.

I resisted the temptation to come out and say how great 2010 was going to be. I did that last year and it fell far-short of my expectations.

My News Resolution was to "Challenge myself, physically, mentally or emotionally once a day". I have kept it up thus far. Privately I have a list of some modest goals that I want to achieve this year as well. More abstract/lifestyle things, such as start sailing etc.

In terms of business, I started out being 100% fully self-employed this year and it's been tough. I've made some difficult choices, but just secured my first couple of clients to start on in February. January has been a quiet income month, but I am keeping my eyes on the clock and monitoring how much time I have left. I promised myself this would be a better year, and I hate breaking promises.

I was thinking about the sentiment you express in the OP as well just the other day. I think this is a great thread and a great reminder to those who were so excited about 2010.

    Best of luck to everyone.

2009 I missed my IM income goal by about 10K. And I know why I did, because of the lack of focus over the last 6 months of 09. And failure to take the necessary action, even when I saw I wasn't going to reach my 09 income goal.

So I increased my financial goal for 2010 by an additional 20K over 2009.

Since 1Jan10 through today, I'm on track to blow well past my mid 5 figure goal and possibly reach just short of breaking 6 figures in 2010. The reason for that is taking the necessary action, at the time I need to take it and the focus needed to do that.

And speaking of focus I'm out of here to finish another project to kick February off with a bang.

Focus and take action, no matter what way you want to move your IM in 2010.

    birdie28a,

To accomplish your goals for IM you have to stay focused and take action every day. Perhaps it will help to focus if you make a list of say 3 or 4 things to do every day and cross them up 1 by 1 as you finish them.

Without the focus and action you will fall far short of where you want to be or in the worst case scenario not even get it done in 2010.

You can do it. Go for it!

Just as the one statistic stated... more than half of people who make a new year's resolution BREAK IT in their first week and out of those, half will give up on the first month!

It was something to that extent that I first heard from Tony Robbins.

But of course as you might relate, I made my mind up already about not giving up until I've accomplished everything I want to. And that's including giving as much value as I possibly can to the industry and community! My blog is a big component of that value.

    All the best.

Oh and one more thing... Don't EVER give up! There were times where I almost felt like quitting, but then surges of cash were deposited into my accounts which more than motivated me to keep on going.

    1. Implemented my plan to reduce the amount of time I spend using my talents to make other people money and redirected them towards building my own products and web sites.

    2. Outsourced my bookkeeping and accounting to recover the time spent on that.

    3. Rearranged my office to soak up the effects of Feng Shui (since I just wrote an e-book on it for someone)

    4. BANISHED negativity from my life and reduced or terminated my relationships with negative people.

    5. Got back to doing my daily affirmations.

    6. Raised my fees.

Well, I guess this makes me the odd ball. I don't make any New Year's
resolutions (other than that I said I'd try not to argue as much with people)
but as far as my business...no proclamations, no goals.

        You're probably thinking...why?

Because I don't need to set goals or make proclamations to succeed. I
just get up every single day, like I always have since the first day I got
into Internet marketing, and try to do the best I can...no more...no less.

If I have a good day, great. If not, I try to make tomorrow better.

This month, if I'm going to be honest, started out like crap for me. I was
having my worst month of the last 3 years. I even discussed this with a
very respected Warrior here. He told me to look at my traffic, check things
out and try to figure out where the problem was.

Well, nothing stood out. Yeah, traffic was down by 10%, but that
shouldn't account for a 50% drop in income.

        Yeah, it was that bad.

So I rolled up my sleeves and got to work. I didn't make any proclamations
and didn't even tell anybody what I was going to do to fix the problem.

        Then end result?

This month is my 2nd best month in the last 7.

And I discovered something, thanks to some changes at Clickbank and a
customer who actually gave me a great idea (still have to get back to
him on it) that will nail down the next 2 months with no problem.

I'm not saying people shouldn't set goals, but there is too much posturing
and chest beating online and not enough doing.

I used to be one of the worst offenders in this area but I have learned
my lesson. The only thing that matters is results.

        Talk is cheap.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents on all this "I'm going to have a great year"
        stuff.

Take it for what it's worth to you.

Bah, you're a party pooper Steve!

    Boy THAT's the truth.

But, it is a rare successful person who does not set goals - success, of course, being subjective.

To anyone reading this who may be new to Internet Marketing - your absolute best bet is to set small, reachable goals, no matter what the guru's say. This will give you a way to measure your success and you'll develop a forward momentum that will take you a long way towards your dreams.

      Boy, and howdy.

OK, I actually agree. Hopes are the big things. Goals are the small, daily actions that add up to getting to your Hopes.

If I didn't set goals I would have a more difficult time determining whether or not I have been able to stay focused. I do simply try to do my best each day - and some days are much more productive than others - but without a plan or goal in mind how would I know if I was working in the right direction?

In fact, I have a day planner that has goals documented for each 3 month period of the year. My business plan requires that I work toward goals - and as mentioned - success is subjective. Although I am working toward a goal of a set dollar amount, I am also measuring my success via the actions and progress that I make toward that ultimate goal.

When people ask me for help I always suggest that they have a business plan and part of any business plan includes goals that can be flexible as the business needs change. Goals should always be reasonable but challenging and measurable.

With all that being said, my 2010 business plan (as others have) includes quarterly goals that are broken down into monthly goals, and those are broken down into weekly goals. And on a daily basis I have an ongoing 'to do' list that helps to keep me on track. This is how I maintain focus and measure my success - in other words, I can have a successful day or week that isn't necessarily profitable when it comes to dollar signs.

Excellent, Debbie! Awesome work, breaking down your goals like that. I use a big dry erase board to keep track of my projects and where I'm at with each one.

        Hi Lisa,

Goals are the only thing that keep me focused on where I want to end up - I have to break things down into step-by-step pieces that I can work on a daily basis or I would feel overwhelmed. And I have to admit that it makes me feel good to check things off my daily to do list. It's my own little pat on the shoulder! lol

Anyway - I hope that helps someone else!

So far going good here Michael, one of the reasons why I've been quieter than usual. One of my major goals for this year was to take smaller steps, but a lot more of them than the sporadic giant burnout leaps I used to take. It's working much better, my creativity and sanity are still intact AND I'm getting a ton of work done.

That is until I spied your signature...I can't concentrate now!

Wow! That's why I love the Warrior Forum.

My goals for 2010 are on track. I have a written goal for how much I plan on earning per month by December 31st, 2010.

Here is a snippet of my twice daily affirmation...

...taking massive action, providing outstanding value, becoming a student, re-building current sites and products, making a deep funnel and learning new things. Additionally, obstacles will inspire me to work even harder.
Regardless of what Steven said, go ahead and make goals.

Not everyone is as successful as he is, and setting goals helps a lot. At the very least, they remind of an actual target instead of blindly drifting along.

    All the best,
    Michael

p.s. Hamlet - Act III, Scene ii, spoken by Gertrude comes to mind.

Michael is absolutely right. The only reason I don't have to set goals
is because I am incredibly disciplined, my own worst critic and never
satisfied with anything. My very being of existence is to get up and make
the most of each day, which is why I so seldom even sit down to watch
TV. The only reason I've spent so much time in the recording studio the
last year is because I was determined to finally make it in the music
business. While I don't have a goal, I have dreams. I keep those dreams
under wraps and under control, otherwise they would consume me...
      something they used to do.

When you're obsessive/compulsive, as I am, you have to be careful
about making goals because if you don't reach them, they can eat you
alive. I used to have a big problem with that, but no more.

I probably should have said, I am an unusual case and not to be used as
a guideline or anything near the norm, which is why I prefaced my post
by saying I must be an odd ball.

      Now you know why.

But for those of you who have trouble giving yourself a kick start, goals
are great. In fact, when I was really OCD, I'd have a chart of where I
wanted to be on a given date and if I didn't meet that goal I'd practically
      have a fit.

Trust me...it's not healthy. This is why I now have to take each day, one
at a time. I've come to understand that with my work ethic, I know that
while I may not bust any marketing records, I'll earn what I need to keep
a roof over my head, my family fed, my daughter in school, and even have
some left over to have some fun.

My wife tells me I'll probably be working until they bury me. (Hell, look at
how many posts I have if you want to see OCD.)

      Anyway, I hope she's wrong.

Even though I can't imagine myself sitting around doing nothing.

We have set up one new product for eack week.

Have started 4 new blogs to help support the
      sites.

Have increased list by 100, haven't spent that
      much time on it.

Made 3/4 as much money as last January, not
      the best.

All bills are paid, that good.

    I'll be honest here.

2010 certainly seems like its sucking just as hard as 2009 did.

HOWEVER, I am working proactively to make it better. I'm creating a product to be released this week, along with making JV's and working on my affiliate marketing.

There is a lot of stuff going on in my silly little life, and I attribute it all to the fact that the last dregs of suckage from 2009 are still eeking away, and as such, the year can and will only get better from here.

When it all comes together, this will be a monumental year, maybe not for you, but sure as hell will it be for me.

    I have:

    Bought my new workstation
Set it up with most of the software/hardware I need
    Bought the hosting
    Bought the domain
Had the wordpress blog and forum set up

    I´m currently:

Researching a few more of the subjects that go in the site.
    Choosing an article writer
Working on the right approach to get Steven Wagenheim to write my opening article-statement of intentions.

Things I know I need to do but haven´t done yet:

Get that 25$ report on keywords that´s somewhere in the WSO or warriors for hire section.

Get in touch with Sbucciarel. Looks like the person I might be buying a few ready made blogs form this year.

So while I´m not going as fast as I would like, I don´t think I´m doing as bad as last year ( when I did pretty much sod all aside from some squidoo experiments that bore no fruit).

    Things are going great.

I have almost doubled sales already compared to last year.

I am now up to $1.80 already.

The target is a Starbucks coffee and a chocolate flap jack by the end of the year.

Joking aside, it's going well but I've not quite reached those heady heights yet. Just $1.50

Now seriously, sales are going very well, we have taken on a few new staff, we are planning a move to some larger premises in a month or two and my new yacht arrives next Thursday.

No, honestly this time, things are going well
