Wordpress Right (Or Write) Panel Help

7 replies
hello everyone

I've always used xcitepro to make my websites

i've started a few blogs for a new project i'm involved in but i just can't understand it

the part that I'm struggling with is customizing the right hand panel

there are various tabs such as archives, catagories etc

I don't want any of this (or if i have to i want it lower down)

i just want a simple WYSIWYG right panel where i can add text, banners and links (and for the same panel to be used on every page) just like with xsitepro

how do you actually do this?

i've tried using a plugin called flutter, which just doesn't work i get the following message

*******************************

Flutter is not ready yet. must create the following folders (and must be writable):
  • /home/thefirst/public_html/wp-content/plugins/fresh-page/thirdparty/phpthumb/cache/
  • /home/thefirst/public_html/wp-content/files_flutter/
  • /home/thefirst/public_html/wp-content/files_flutter/modules/
********************************

that means absolutely nothing to me

then I've tried using another plugin called "custom-write-panel" but with this you need to start editing php and i know nothing about that either

so my question

does anybody know how to actually edit the right hand panel successfully without all of this messing around

or if you need to use a pluggin, one that comes with simple instructions or better yet a video tutorial

thank you

    You can always drag a widget into the sidebar then all of that will disappear. I use text widgets that way I can add HTML, links, etc. Go to Appearance/Widgets

        Once you get the hang of it, you'll start raving about how easy it is to use.

        You can fill your sidebar up with whatever you want or have it be completely blank, its up to you.

        On your dashboard go into widgets and if you already have the code for what you want to appear there, just drag a text widget over to the sidebar and insert your code into it. If you don't have the code for what you want to do, do a search because there are tons of great plugins/widgets that have already been created and may make it even easier to accomplish what you are trying to do.

        Hope that helps.

          this is really getting on my nerves now

          i dragged the text widget over and i thought everything would be fine when i started adding text

          but it just can't read html properly, whenever i insert a link (no choice but to use html) the anchor text always ends up on a seperate line to the text above and below it, it just can't understan why it's doing it

            this is the website where I'm conducting my experiments

            entertainment-blogger [dot] com

            if you look to the right you will see a link to

            uk.eonline [dot] com

            but it's not flowing with the text and I just can't understand why this is happening

            any help is appreciated

    i thought I'd leave another reply to give this thread a boost back up

    if someone could take a quick moment to have a look at the site and tell me what's going on with the link at the right hand side of the page and why it won't flow with the rest of the text i would be very greatfull

    It is your stylesheet, i.e. the theme's stylesheet:

    #sidebar a {
    display: block;
    padding: 5px;
    color: #000000;
    }

    Remove the bold line! It is under the Sidebar Items section in the style.css file.
