So Whatever Happened To Squidoo?

A few months back, Squidoo was still quite a talking point. Just lately, I see very few new threads mentioning it here - plenty still about submitting articles but not much about Squidoo lenses (which I see as an 'article page' much in the way I see an EZA article is a unique webpage).

And, now I come to think about it, it seems ages since
I saw a Squidoo lens on Google page 1. Or a hubpage for that matter.

Have I missed something? Is this my imagination?

What is the current thinking on Squidoo & Hubpages?

Oh boy...I could write a HUGE post about this...lol

Even though I have written upwards of 80 some lenses for them, I do believe that Squidoo had some serious issues with quality in the past (i.e. the Infamous Google/Squidoo Slap)

HubPages is great...but, they don't offer a revenue share that even remotely compares to what some emerging websites are offering....there is ALOT of competition in the Article submission revenue sharing industry.....

Squidoo was a brilliant idea, however, some find it's platform confusing....and, the highest earning in October last year didn't earn remotely close to what the highest earners on similar platforms earned...

Squidoo has a great community, and it's forum is very supportive....they do have a strong foundation of very supportive users, however, I do believe there is greater (monetary) opportunity elsewhere.

      Nothing has happened

We are all using them pretty much. They are just not the latest trick.
My hub pages in particular do well for offline business with good rankings.

The point is to use any and everything that is useful to bring you traffic

It's just part of the evolution of Internet Marketing. Squidoo was highly used for traffic and backlinks. I still submit to both squidoo and hubpages because I get decent traffic and the backlinks are still nice but other sources are working better lately.

This will happen the rest of your internet marketing career. It's like being in a continued education program for life =)

I don't know I still like Squidoo, I still get a monthly deposit into my pay pal account from them and I am building a list off my lens as well. It is true they got slapped and just recently Squidoo changed there tos. But I still enjoy building lens. I think people just got sick of talking about them.

I still have some Squidoo lenses that are doing well.

But they changed their Terms of Service dramatically in the last year and LOTS of topics are now off-limits -- Forex, Clickbank ebooks claiming to cure various medical problems, weight-loss, colon cleansing, and much, much more...

They also did away with Groups, which I think makes new lenses harder to get noticed. I still create new lenses that are in the same niche as old ones I have that are doing well and are still legal.

Hubpages I never had much luck with... though I discovered I'd earned enough to donate a buck to Haiti, so I did! But each niche is a little different, right?

    Hmmm.

Thank you all for the input.

I ask as I have not seen much traffic from either compared to articles up on EZA or Articlebase and other quality directories and wondered if it was just me making crap lenses (mind you, I have yet to see one that made me go 'Wow') or whether I was missing something somewhere.

You must be making crap lenses because both squidoo and hubpages out perform article directories for me.

This was an honest of the cuff response.

Same here! Squidoo lenses get me a ton of traffic. They seem to rank really well on Yahoo.. and a little while later on Google.

It took one lens three weeks to start getting traffic.. but when it did.. boy its been going on forever!

Take time to build your lenses.. the community is really good if you know how to play it there..

I used them briefly and I am a newbie but here is my observations.

It seems that a mistake a lot of IM 's make is to run to the next hot thing. I feel this is the case with article marketing.

Everyone is just pumping out the articles but not everyone is a writer.

There are some who have made a killing on Squidoo or Myspace (remember that fad)
but it was tailored for them.

I recently heard a guy in a store telling a girl who wanted to do IM to just write articles. She didnt like it(i was overhearing them) He again told her to just right articles.
I Have stated before that you must know your power zone. Maybe its PPC..or videos..or articles..or squidoo..or web.2.o..etc
Sadly one person yells there is money on facebook or myspace or Youtube and everyone runs even if they do not know what to do when they get there:confused:

I think a site dies when everyone goes there looking for money..law of diminished return or something

The power of squidoo basically lay in parasite SEO. Of course, google is onto that. There are other way better domains for doing something similar.
