Confused about wordpress...

I have a Apple (Mac) computer. I am ready to do website design for my website. I am thinking probably to go with BLUEHOST.

My question is what software should I use to design my website on my Apple computer and what role "wordpress" has here. Trying to learn one step at a time.

Someone from here suggested to go w3schools.com and I already learn some HTML and CSS.

Much obliged for your answers.

Well, If you use Wordpress (.org), you can easily install that with a few clicks withing your Bluehost hosting.

Wordpress is the backbone and structure of the website itself. Unless you want to design and create your own themes, you won't need any type of design software. You just simply upload an existing theme (thousands of free and paid versions readiliy available) anf make any minor adjustments withing the Wordpress admin area.

    • Do you want to be a designer or an Internet Marketer? If it's the latter, don't spend too much time "learning" the details behind design and development. Sure, learn the basics of HTML but don't get caught up in the details of design and development if your goal is to make money as an Internet Marketer.

As someone has already suggested here, WordPress is the way to go. Just pick a theme you like to get started!

Yes, it kind of depends on what your goal is. If you are planning on doing Internet marketing, you can install WordPress by going to your Bluehost cPanel (I'm assuming they use cPanel, not 100% sure), click on Fantastico, and then WordPress. It's just a couple minutes to install.

If this is your plan, you don't want to go to Wordpress.com. That is the version where it's hosted for you, and you don't have the freedom to put advertising on your site. In contrast, the WP you will install with Fantastico is Wordpress.org.

You can use WP to build a site for just about anything. It's a blogging platform, which means it's created mainly for the purpose of writing regular posts, the newest one always appearing at the top, but there are ways to make more of a static site with a few modifications.

The fact that you have a Mac, while commendable , does not really make a difference as far as your hosting and WordPress are concerned. Have fun!

I agree that Wordpress is the way to go to get a site that looks decent up and running quickly with little knowledge of html. However, if you want to be an Internet Marketer, I believe that learning some html and design skills helps you accomplish this goal. I see so many that want to launch a site and don't know the first thing on how to get that done. Of course you can outsource stuff like that, but not everyone has a lot of startup cash to outsource in the beginning. The more you learn about your business, the more it will benefit you.

I want to jump in here and ask again what you want to do. If you want to do "internet marketing" that is kind of like asking someone what they want to do for a living, and they say "sales"....

You kind of need to be more specific. Because what you want to do determines the tools you need and how to use those tools.

You need to get the right tool box and the right tools for the job you want to do.

If you want to develop an income from blogging, then by all means get a domain name, signup with Bluehost, and install Wordpress your self through Cpanel (see Laura's comment above). Upload a great looking theme. And start blogging away.

But if you want to build static websites then you need to learn html. Or know enough to contract the work out.

But I go back to what you want to do... I think that you really need to define what you want to do online (ok, make money... but how??? be specific) and then plan how you are going to do this, and then start getting the tools to get this done.

Don't get get carried away by how easy some of this seems... beneath the cool looking websites is a lot of work....and planning and strategy...

Build a foundation. Think about what you want to do and how you are going to get there.

    Then go for it...
