This is why you fail while it's hard not to make money with IM

This was my problem until I snapped out of it.

The truth is that making money online isn't a rocket science but I didn't start seeing results until I applied the science to it.

Aside from IM I am pursuing my studies in aeronautical engineering and space technologies. Actually, I discovered IM in my 2nd year at the university.

I have tried to make money online for a considerable amount of time but failed miserably. I accumulated credit after credit. But considering that I was both a student and an IMer, I consider my debt at the time really nothing.

I was in essence the concentrate of poverty: A student + Miserable IMer (sorry but this is how I felt).

And then I flew to visit my family on an Island where an Internet connection is luxury. And that's where I got enough time to think back and analyse.

I asked myself:

-What did you actually accomplish in that long time (more than a year)?
-You are an Internet Marketer. What do you own on the Internet?

And the answer was shocking: Almost nothing.
Only scattered pieces that merge into nothing.

A couple of articles here, a couple of blogs there (with little to no content of course)...

I have always started something and then jumped to the next big best b.. thing and never got something done.

Worse yet, I didn't get good at anthing... I mean really good.

And when I made a comparison between my IM way to learn things and the way things are done at the university, everything was even clearer.

The typical IM newbie spends a couple of hours on method x or system y (maybe 1 month at most) and expects to make money although he really doesn't know what he's doing.

At the university, you are taught a module in at least 6 months and some people don't pass the exam despite all the intensive work.

The point is: Don't scatter your efforts and focus.

If you stick to the worst money making system long enough, you WILL make money.

Don't be a perfectionist, don't be picky, take whatevery module you are introduced to and apply, apply and apply some more. It will be hard for you not to make money.

When you will have the cash flow, be pick, be a perfectionist (although it won't do you any good).

I hope this will be a guidance for some of you.

Houcem,

That is correct. Most methods will work,,,,,if you work them. There is the problem, "work". Too many treat this as a hobby and expect full time income. Perhaps some can do that, but for a newbie wanting $2K per month working it as a job is essential.

So what do you recommend if you already are doing a full time job? Then this has to be a part time endeavor that you fit in around working/commuting/housework/family etc. etc.

I completely agree with and love this post. It's about sticking to one thing, something, one method and see it through to get results. I've been a victim of jumping from one thing to the other in the past, but not anymore, cos it doesn't pay off.

I have decided to take one thing now. and since i started it's been marvellous. The results are coming in and i'm looking forward to supercharging my results.

To newbies here, i would say, pick one thing you want to do. Focus on thing. Get a proper knowledge and education on it and work it. It will require your effort and work. Nothing will work without working it.

        Take care everyone

Understand, your mindset should be that of a part time job then, keyword "job" not hobby. Does not mean that you have to work any specific number of hours, just that when you are working on your business you are doing just that --"working".

Schedule your "part time working hours" put them down on a calendar and work around other commitments. Say you devote only 2 hours per day, have that 2 hour time block down on paper and have written down what you are going to accomplish during those 2 hours. Make your schedule up a week in advance and stick to it. Failure to plan is a plan to fail.

    You are absolutely right.
You need to step out of the amateur mentality and be a professional.

And a professional does the work... even if he doesn't feel like doing it.

If you want to make money like a pro then you gotta act like one.

Houcem, you really hit the nail on the head there. The average newbie treats IM like a part-time hobby with a few hours here and there of scattered effort, yet expects full-time income from it. In essence, they're treating it like it's some kind of a magic sequence of events that will literally 'materialize' money in front of them for a few hours of pleasant work at the computer. Nothing could be further from the truth!

Also, you've made an excellent comparison between university studies and IM. While you probably won't require 4 years of solid IM work to be a success, it'll require more than a few random hours thrown in here and there. After all, once you start comparing it to any course that you take in university, you come to realize that it's really ridiculous to even expect to see any real results after a a month or two of part-time work. It requires focus and dedication, and you have to treat it as if it were a real business, otherwise you end up with a part-time endeavor that rewards you with little to no money for your efforts.

Absolutely. Some advice I would give to any IM'er is to pick ONE TOPIC, ONE NICHE, ONE SUBJECT and ONE WEBSITE, and perhaps even one marketing method until you see results.

Once you have mastered ONE site promoting ONE product, then replicate replicate replicate replicate.

Stick with it, NEVER GIVE UP. Failure cannot tolerate persistance

Think with the end in mind. What is it you are trying to achieve? Trying to build a business or make a few $$ on the side? I suspect 90% on here are in the latter category. Making $1,000+ per month is quite easy. Do basic I.M'ng 101

shen923 - excellent advice. I think many times too much emphasis is placed on the method, and not the mindset. You have to treat this like a job and become your very own demanding boss that demands discipline and excellence, and this is where so many people fall flat. If you can only devote two hours a day consistently to just about any decent method, you will still see results, but it may take a little longer. The key is to do this consistently for two hours a day for at least several months. Doing it this way may mean you do not see results until maybe month 2 or 3, so the important factor here is to keep doing it consistently, and keep distractions at bay. In this sort of a part-time scenario, you really have to carve out two solid hours every night where your sole focus is on IM and nothing else, you close out your instant messenger, stop browsing the web, and focus all your attention on your work. This may mean telling your significant other and people around you to stay away for that period of time that you're working, so that you can cut out distractions as much as possible.
