Watch These Videos - Ask Less Questions

So many questions asked here are repetitive and nothing more than rehashed rumours and imaginary fears. I'm sure most of you know of Matt Cutts, if you aren't aware that he records regular videos answering webmaster questions then I suggest subscribing to the Youtube Channel because his videos answer A LOT of stuff that is asked so often - things like duplicate content, ranking factors, cross linking etc etc

Take a couple of hours to watch his videos, most are very short, I'm sure this will clear up some misconceptions for you and hopefully lead to people asking less repetitive and paranoid questions here!

This is really a good post with a useful link. But I feel your this post would move down in the line and naturally our friends will again start asking similar questions.

After all, it is quite easy to just put in the question into a new thread rather than digging up the old posts.

I don't wear a tin-foil skull cap and I don't think 9/11 was an inside job, but you gotta take anything coming from Matt Cutts or any other representative at Google with one boulder-sized hunk of salt. Their only 2 loyalties are to shareholders and site users. As marketers, they see us in many ways as "the enemy." We are the barbarians at their gates, constantly seeking out weaknesses in their defenses. Know what I mean? It would not be beneath them to throw some head fakes our way now and then to keep us watching all the pretty bells and whistles, while the real action is somewhere else. Sorry for all the mixed metaphors, but you get the point. Lot of smart eggs over there at Googleplex. They're not going to give us anything really enlightening.

I am a big believer in watching how people and organizations act instead of what comes out of their mouths. And so I do think you can get some good basic guidelines about how to set up your sites and do some other things that will help you based on what you can glean from how Google ranks pages. But I pay little attention to what their mouthpieces say, especially if they know it's going out for public consumption.

Oh ok, James. Now I see how you are. You can expect nothing but really bad advice from now on, pal.

    I agree with Zeus66.

Google isn't going to tell us (marketers) how to game the system and compromise the search results pages' quality for the end-user.

They are not videos about how to game the system. They answer some very basic questions that are asked too often. Sometimes it's best to relax and stop thinking everyone is out to get you.

This link was posted for anyone interested in basic SEO, if not then feel free to get your info from somewhere else.

Yes, Rebecca, and sometimes it's better to maintain a healthy level of skepticism. That includes considering the source every time you listen to even the simplest advice about these issues. I'm sorry, but even on the basic stuff I take what someone like Matt Cutts says with caution. If he's saying it in public and knowing it's apt to get disseminated widely, you can bet he's vetting it carefully. He has a responsibility to do so, so I'm not bashing him. If I worked for Google, I too would be very careful not to divulge anything that might cause my network harm by encouraging activities by hyperactive marketers looking to get an edge. That's all I was saying here. Don't take it personally that your suggestion to look at his video was not met with universal accolades. I'm glad you posted it, but I think Warriors should know not to simply assume that words from Matt Cutts' mouth are pure as the driven snow.

I took a couple hours out last week to watch those videos. There is a lot of believable stuff in them, but I also give some credence to Zeuss66 because I have seen first hand how some of Matt Cutts statements were literally disproven before my very eyes. I wish I could remember the context and specific case, sadly I can't, but I have seen enough evidence to be convinced for myself. I don't trust 100% of what comes out Matt Cutts mouth, but I do think most of it makes sense, just not all of it.
