I saw that, but to be quite honest this is the first "public" announcement of such a partnership. Rest assured that all of the acronym agencies have plenty of arrangements and interactions with the big sites.

  • Rob is right, and I would add that what they're announcing doesn't even show you the tip of the iceberg. They know more about you than you know about yourself, or that's what they'd like to think anyway. Whatever. That's the world we live in.

Sorry, I do need to mellow out a bit

But seriously, I'm tired of seeing that "the sky is falling" every time Google changes up something to protect their biz.

Anywhere other than here... Here's the thing, I grew up to believe in constitutional rights. In reality, they do not exist except for those who know the right people or have enough money.

Here is the thing, I just want to be somewhere where I have a clear idea of where I stand, rights or no rights, I want to be told the truth.

I've been to a lot of different countries: Canada, Italy, Israel, Greece, Switzerland, Spain, France, as well as others, and in my opinion, and no offense to anyone from other countries, but there's no place like home.

I made a reply a while back the last time this issue came up and I'll say it again here.

In the United States there seems to be this myth about your "right" to privacy. The Constitution does not guarantee that information will not be gathered about you.

It, the Constitution, protects you from how your information is used against you.

Anyone that wants to know anything about you can find more information on you than you can imagine. But when they start to use that information to slander you, blackmail you, refuse to hire you, arrest you...then your "Rights" kick in.

If someone is listening to your phone conversations right now and you make a damaging statement that implicates you in a crime, that information can not be used against you unless they already had a probable cause and a signed warrant authorizing the use of the information before your self incrimination.

Ask yourself if it would even be possible to protect an entire nation of people from having others know something about you that you don't want them to know.

So I am taking pictures of my kids at the beach and you walk by as I am clicking the camera, do you have the "right" to ask me for my camera? Of course not.

Just imagine the can of worms that would fill the courts from coast to coast. You think we have too many lawyers and court cases now?

The right to complete privacy is unrealistic and the Constitution was written fully aware of that.

You are "secure" in knowing that when I print out that picture from the beach with you walking along with your girlfriend, that I would be in big trouble if I tried to elicit money from you to not tell your wife.

If Google or anyone else that had access to your Internet information started handing it out at will, they would be shut down, fined and possibly locked up and they know it.

Glad you brought that up, Matt. There is no Constitutional right to privacy nor should there be.

If there were, then it would be very hard to convict the freaky old uncle that takes his 7 year old niece to the bedroom when no one is watching and has his way with her. We don't want these people protected by a "right to privacy" (or at least I don't).

Furthermore, political topics are forbidden here and this thread is getting very close to crossing that line.

You know, all this talk of Google being "Big Brother" is horse s**t. They are big business, not a totalitarian regime, and no aspirations to do so...

If your'e in IM then you have to consider yourself as a biz partner and give the "Big G" content that is good for your and their biz, instead of trying to game them.

Any attempt to outright game them is short lives because they have the means to catch it. But if you provide some benefit to them, you will have much better results.

Just think of everything of WIIFG (whats in it for google) and you will come out far of your competitors instead of thinking wiifm.

Seriously, there are two types of marketers here. Ones that can develop a symbiotic relationship with the big G and those who form a parasitic relationship with the big G.

Which ones do you think will survive the long term???

      Just common sense folks...

I think too many Americans were asleep during Civics class.

They must have been up all night listening to Art Bell.

That's where your Rights are going.

Instead of reading about how this country works and participating in our government, they are reading crap on the Illuminati, conspiracies, the hidden government, people living on Mars, secret societies taking over ...

Good God, who has time to understand how our elected officials officiate. And then it's no wonder Jay Leno can have a show on stupid people who don't even know who the Vice President is.

And then sit around and laugh about it.

it wouldn't surprise me that NSA and the Government hacked google and its other counter parts to make it appealing for google to take on NSA's help...

I mean, come on, this all sounds too fishy to me, who is big enough to hack google and experienced enough to hack google?

    NSA and the government?

This is no different than causing a war in iraq so they could enforce laws that would not normally be passed by putting the scare factor in the public so there is a unanimous decision and this is no different.

If it should be anyone to be hacked, it should be microsoft, but you dont see microsoft seeking help

i for one wont be buying googles phones or their OS thats due to be released

If you think you have "privacy" now - you are delusional. That privacy disappeared while you weren't looking a few years ago. You logged onto the internet, gave your info to credit card companies. The only way to be private is to be totally off the grid - not an easy way to live.

You fill out info forms for freebies - open accounts on social sites - do your banking online - do your shopping online. After you GIVE away your privacy...it's too late to argue about that "right".

There is a growing problem with security, threats and attacks online- and we know that. At some point there has to be oversight and investigations - or we just hand over the web to the bad guys.

The only people who should worry about this announcement are the ones causing chaos...or planning to. If every country would police the cybercrime originating on their turf - the internet would be better for it.
