I could use help monetizing website

I bought a domain name( current culture trends.com)
I would like to use social bookmarking sites like twitter, Facebook and craigslist, to start discussions on current culture trends.
Hopefully, these discussions will lead to great debate, thus building a list of followers so to say.
Example, if today's trend was green disputes and how it affects marriages perhaps I could have a link to articles that helps people deal with this problem.
If the topic was healthcare reform, same thing, have informative links to that subject matter as well.
Would you suggest this as a membership site? Or what could I do exactly to monetize such a site?
I know this is a broad question, I think what I'm trying to ask is a website that allows people to chime in with their two cents and perhaps see a link to buy something a doable thing. Whether it's self-help e-books or other books or gizmos and gadgets.
I hope I'm clear on this, I don't always articulate myself well, and on top of that I'm still a new newbie.

Tommy

PS forgive me for any grammatical errors as I'm trying out my new DNS 10

Hmm, if I understand you correctly, this will be a discussion and debate site for people who like to argue X I mean discuss topics of interest, right?

I don't know how many people would be prepared to pay membership fees simply to be able to voice their opinions. My guess is not many, but hey I may be wrong.

How about selling advertising space on your website to relevant companies who operate in the categories of the discussions?

hey, thanks for the kudos on the website name.

I never thought about having advertisement spots, great idea !

I think e-books would be a great idea, if I had away put them together and upload them for sale in pretty quick fashion.

Any more suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks

Yes this would be a discussion, debate type site.

Say the topic was green disputes, I also have a domain name green disputes.com.
I love thinking up domain names, and it seems like a wise business plan would be linking from domain to domain from niche to niche so to speak.

I hope I am making sense, this is still very new to me but I have a vision.
With your feedback, I just might pull this off.

Debate-style sites are a good idea as you will generate return visitors and also hopefully word will spread. Especially if they are hot issues with no easy answers.

If you build up a membership that will regularly participate in the debates, offline companies would pay advertising dollars to appear on your website - especially with teen issues.

Yeah, linking from domain to domain is a good strategy.

            hey Nick

I see radio talk shows always touching on a touchy subject to get a debate going, to get their listening audience call-in.

It seems to work for them, I'm sure it would work for me.
It would be cool, if it was such a good forum of debate that they may reference my website someday, just dreaming.

            Thanks for the input.

another question I would have about this campaign, is do you think therapist would be interested in linking to my website?
If a particular culture trend has issues that lead to therapeutical topics would it be a far stretch to have Dr. Laura or Dr. Phil type therapist that would love to pay for a link?
or maybe if I got off my butt I could stay current on culture trends, and contact the experts in that particular field to perhaps write an article.

I appreciate your input, it's more helpful then you'll know.

I can't help myself, I dig domain names.
I think I will link my other site, todays culture trends.com
I would like to learn media marketing, and I could use one of my websites or hot button issues with a YouTube approach, where you see me in your face getting fired up about the topics of today.
I'm still brainstorming ideas, any input will be helpful thanks.
