New Website, No Traffic

I'm not gonna lie I'm only 18 and have no marketing experience whatsoever. I hire people to do work for me and make money that way. I created a new website but I don't know how to get targeted traffic to that website. I can't afford to hire someone to do it for me so what do I do? I've tried google ads (not worth it), blogs, personal messages to thousands of people on myspace, and even forum posts. My page views are extremely low and I just don't know what to do. From reading the posts in this forum there seems to be a lot of smart people on here that know a lot about business. I really want to get this business going but I just don't know how I can possibly do it.

Thanks for any help.

  • Can't of been very good temporary employees if you payed them to do traffic building for you and you have no money to outsource anymore. Your ROI must of been in the negative

Sorry, I must have said that wrong. I didn't mean that I hire employees to build traffic. I could never afford that. I hire people that provide a product for example a music producer. I then create a website and sell their product and take half of their profit. I am not making much right now because, as I said, marketing is my problem. I have no money to invest in marketing. Now to answer other peoples questions:

This current website has been running for about 4-5 months.

My target market is up-and-coming rap/hip-hop and R&B artists. Mostly young people involved in the hip-hop community. And yes, I have targeted these people, with little success.

I have spent countless hours researching all the proper SEO things. I do have back-links, I even have one with the top site on google that does the same thing I do but more expensive. I have all the keywords optimized and everything like that. The last time I checked my page rank though it was only at 1/10. (Update: Wow, I just checked the page rank and it's now at 2! I know it's not high but at least it is improving... slowly...) I have even wrote articles on my site and on ezine to try and build it up that way. I even have an rss hip-hop news feed on my site.

It's hard for me to do things like articles and stuff. What I am working on here is selling instrumentals for rappers or singers that cannot producer their own music. This stuff can sell and I have already sold a lot. Those customers almost always come back but the hard part is getting those customers in the first place. I am learning as I go...

Oh, the website is DurkMusicBeats.com. It isn't really where I want it to be at the time and will be improved since I finally thing I found a web site designer to work with me. Before that, I had to learn this all myself and do it all myself through the internet while in college learning something totally different. Now that I can spend more time on marketing and drawing in traffic I think I can do a lot better.

Wow, that was really great advice. That gives me a lot to do. I am ready to hit all of those things and more. I can't wait to get started. I really hope it works. Thanks for your help guys.

I notice you don't have a Twitter avatar in your profile on the left side of your post. Sometimes, I think you have to promote a little every day and Twitter is a way you could do that.

I would get a Twitter account with DurkMusicBeats in the name (hopefully it's not taken). Then I'd get a custom background theme related to your genre.
Next in your profile I'd put in your website.
Tweet a couple of messages related to your industry - I noticed you have a news feed on your web site. You could Tweet those.
Think of all the top people in your niche and do a friend search in Twitter. Follow their followers. At least half will follow back.
Go to Twello.com and sign up. Do a search for your category and follow more people.
Tweet more relevant messages along with your URL.

Do you have any kind of list? How are you targeting what forums and blogs you comment on? You seem to be working the generic ones, which is good, but you should also look to target your market. Have you identified your target market?

Have you done all the proper on-site SEO? What about backlinks? Have you made an effort to get some good high-PR backlinks? Articles published all around the web linking back to your site? Is your site properly optimized for your target keywords? And speaking of keywords, are you targetting the right ones? (good amount of searches, with low to moderate competition)

I guess all of that will help with organinc traffic from the search engines. Beyond that, there are lots of other things you should do, but I'd start with that first.

If you're putting you hand in your pocket already, spend it on something worth the money... Honestly, the best move you could make is buying a membership to the War Room, and following some carefully laid out traffic generation plans. I built a link wheel method based on some methods I learnt in the WSO area, and in the War Room. I have even started looking into the PPC side of marketing, which is something I always went against in the past. I got my proof that PPC could work for my business models from trying out methods I learnt in the War Room, and they were mostly from FREE giveaways in there.

If ye seek, ye shall find. The search bar at the top of this page will give you some insight into what free traffic generation methods are available to all Warriors. Fabian Tan wrote some great stuff about it. I'd also recommend looking into backlinks & reciprocal marketing. Messaging people on facebook is a short term result imho, whereas your time would have been better spent contacting blog owners with link love requests.

Traffic is a bit like sex. Even when it's crap, it's still pretty good. Don't be afraid to try out some cheap & cheerful traffic like PPV, because forget the stigma - people are making it WORK. Some posts here at WF will testify to that.

Never look a gift horse in the mouth. If you build some quality rep here at WF, and on other webmaster sites, you have got THOUSANDS of people viewing your signature.

Can you tell us your niche... or possible your website?

Personally, I'm a fan of free traffic methods. Article, video, forum, yahoo answers. Try them all. The things when it comes to free traffic sources, you need to make a presence... the more you do, the better results you're going to get.

My best recommendation is stick with a particular traffic source till you are an expert at it... then outsource it. I started off with article and forum marketing. I recommend you do the same.

My advice would hinge on one word...

      Focus.

There are so many things that we can try in IM, and you have.
The challenge, as Mike Filsaime says, is that most people try something for a couple weeks, then when they don't get the results they're looking for go on to something else. So pick 4-5 activities that you can do regularly that will bring you targeted traffic. Stick with them until you see results.

We're about a year in and are now just getting close to 10k visitors a week, however, traffic is secondary to our number one goal... Subscribers.

Good luck, and don't give up. The average IM quits after 3 months because they aren't patient. It takes a little while to see real success here

I can tell you that I started with a budget of $0 and am proof you can make money with focused hard work. It took article marketing and submissions to start off and then I started putting them through Free Traffic System and found with the right plan getting very targeted traffic to a niche isn't hard. It's hard work, but it isn't hard to actually get the traffic if you are willing to put in the effort. From what I see most people just aren't willing to put in the effort though and are hoping for quick fixes.

Hard work, dedication, focus, and set goals. It's hard to fail when you lay it out on paper and just follow the plan.

You could try getting your content out there and have it link back/funnel traffic to your site. This works to get you traffic from other sources as well as build your site up with it comes to search engine rankings.

Everyone above me has pretty much summed it up the best.

Before you start spending money, I'd start writing articles and submitting them to article directories. Build some backlinks and traffic will begin to come naturally.

Once you start making a little bit of money, then you can think about spending money and growing your site.

Start small and work slow. Take some time to learn the free methods before you worry about trying to take shortcuts.

First, make sure that your site is a quality site. Ask yourself why someone would come to your site again. Provide quality content and people will come back.

Then I would do some research and figure out what niche your site is in and get the appropriate Kwords that you want to rank for.

Plan out a detailed marketing plan and hit it hard.

It would also help if you had some realted products you could sell of your own or thru affiliate programs.

Set up a FB page, YTube and try and have an email opt in so u can build a list.

Eventually u will want to market to this list.

Also join the War Room. The small price u pay now will translate into income later!

You'll get a lot of ideas just by browsing all the neat stuff in the War Room.

    That's how you should start.

The goal is to build up enough traffic for it to become a money maker. Without traffic you'll never see any money.

All good advice, have you considered document sharing sites (google rank these quicker than article sites in my experience - docstoc, authorstream, scribd and so on!)

    Other methods:
    Article Marketing
    Video
    Forum
    Banner ads
    content syndication
    media buys
    ad swaps
    facebook
    twitter

Now i know some of these are paid methods, and if you can afford a little budget for traffic generation then i would recommend you invest, as it is a quicker means to generate traffic, however free traffic is certainly possible, it just takes longer!

    Good luck!

Think of the web as a circus. All the side show freaks are competing for attention from viewers. Well, the trick is to be unique. Have an act that is hard for others to follow and make sure. Yeah, make sure that you hit hard when people try to copy you. There is an audience to gain. Basically, the more outrageous and controversial you are... Well, they more viewers you gain.

I would highly recommend that you educate yourself on the different forms of marketing online. There's a lot of ways to generate traffic to your website.

What are you hiring people to do for you if they aren't generating traffic to your new website?

Blog commenting, forum posting, article marketing, keyword research and other forms of SEO are great and are really the foundation for the success of your website.

However, if you are in a hurry and need to generate sufficient traffic to your website you can always look to credit based safelists or viral list builder systems. These systems are setup in a way that allows you to send mail to a shared list of members completely spam free.

Not all safelists, mailers, viral list builders are created equal. Find ones that produce the best results and then upgrade on them for better results.

This can be one of the best ways to generate fast traffic to your websites or opportunities very quickly. Just becareful using these methods as you are going to receive a lot of emails, so be sure to create filters for each of the sites you plan to work and promote on.

Your website needs an infusion of content. Start blogging about the rap game. Your thoughts, 3 or 400 words at a time. To be honest, after visiting your site my impression was why would I want to visit your site once, let alone a second time. You've got to provide your potential readers something which would make them want to come back to. Maybe some of the content on your newsletter could be placed on the site, then sent to RSS aggregators, social bookmarking sites, make a video presentation (with sick beats of course) and sent to video sites. All from your content and sent to the masses. Stick with it.
