Good VPS for Wordpress?

Is there any good VPS for Wordpress blog? Sites receives less than 100K visitors per month - so disk space and bandwidth is not an issue for me.

Thanks to Blog and forum comment Spammers for making my host suspend Wordpress blog

I have been moving my Wordpress blogs twice in last 2 months. First I was on shared hosting with FatCow - it totally sucks. Then I have moved to VPS with DirectSpace (3 big downtimes in 1 month - just one had a particular reason). After a month I have moved to KnownHost that like for now is awesome! Great support - I have changed plan to lower after signup and payment and had no problems and no any downtime like for now. And it works veryyyyyyyyy fast (you can check my blog). Link with my refferal is on my blog on the bottom of the sidebar, without referral it is KnownHost with dot com - can not post links yet (of course I would be very glad if you use my referral link).

so what are your budgets ? I think the higher your budget the more reliable host you can get for the blog.

I run a few WP blogs they recv. around 7k hits a day and I don't need much space too, I need bandwidth though as they are picture blogs

I am currently using hostv services, they are pretty good, you will get 50% off if you get yearly plan. I am currently into my 7th month, and so far I have not had any problems.

I used servint earlier it was excellent but it was turning to be beyond my budget since the recession phase started.

I have seen good reviews about the following vps's in past 6 - 9 months::
    1. servint
    2. wiredtree
    3. futurehosting
    4. hostv
    5. Liquid Web
    6. Solar VPS
    7. KnownHost

I have used servint and hostv of these 7 list and I can surely recommend them to any one based on my prior experiences

I use several different companies for different IP location purposes but I found them all through this forum - http://www.webhostingtalk.com

Go there and see what others are recommending. I always get tons of great info from this forum.

You'll find some forum specials also which is great.

If your IP location is important be sure to check the location of each companies data center.

I use a semi-dedicated server, works fine for me, although the RAID card went on it yesterday. I would recommend against a VPS for WordPress unless you need over 5K simultaneous connections and a want a faster uplink. I use a semi-dedicated server, dedicated IP, choice of data center, one click installs of WP and customer service is excellent, they offered migration of my "army" of websites for free to gain my business, all that for about $17 per month. I'm good for around 3K-5K simultaneous connections and can send about 500 emails per hour.

Like you, Brainworker, a few of my blogs fell victim to comment spam. One way to fix it is only accept comments you approve, most tools like SB look for mainly auto-approve comments. Another good tip would be to activate the free version of Akismet or get an API for $5/month (I think you have to pay for it now). Again, comment tools like SB will avoid blogs with Akismet activated.

Just activate the default plugin "akismet" and it will take care of most of your spamming problems.

I am with wiredtree with a fully managed vps with cpanel. +- $50 a month. For a special look at the VPS offering on webhostingtalk.com. They also do a hybrid server for 99$ but you can it it via webhostingtalk for $50 the first 3 months.

I like wiredtree as ticket responce is within a few minutes and they also have phone support 247

If you're getting less than 100,000 uniques/month, you should be fine on decent shared hosting.

I was with Sharkspace who were bought over by Eleven2.

I've had a couple of tiny hiccups shortly after they bought over, but it's been pretty smooth sailing, and I average anything from 85-120,000 uniques/month.

They've never told me I'm overusing my allowance.

However, I have always used a caching plugin (W3TC), and recently set up MaxCDN, which made a significant different to the speed (highly recommended).

If you must go with a VPS, go with someone like KnownHost or MDDHosting. Both are very reputable.

However, I'd also recommend looking at MediaLayer's Application hosting packages.

They're a bit stingy with their storage and data transfer, but you will get what you pay for.

I encourage you to try and find a negative review about MediaLayer. They are a little more expensive, but their shared application hosting is faster than most VPS providers, and when combined with a CDN hosting your images, your data transfer should be kept lower.

      Hi,

Are you using MaxCDN along with their storage or just the CDN?

Just using the CDN to deliver images.

Makes a big difference to site speed.

          Thanks.

Good choice. Their rates for CDN are far better than Cloudfront.

I have another question if you don't mind.

If I were to use AWS for storage and MaxCDN for CDN, would there be delivery ( bandwidth ) cost between them? Or is it wiser and cost effective to have file storage and CDN with the same provider?

I'm sure you've considered this sort of mix for videos. What is your advice?
