How unrealistic were your plans for IM?

I am sure we have all been there, just started and thought we would make £200,000,000,000,000,000 overnight, but how far out of whack were your expectations to the actual reality?

I personally would love to make £2000 each month and feel that is achievable, what comes in the future is anyones guess

I never had major expectations going in to be honest. I know it takes time and hard work to achieve anything. Heck even winning the lottery takes time and hard work. Notice how most lottery winners are elders who've been playing it for many years?
Anyway, I do have plans to make a real living online but I keep a level head. We all just have to work at it. A lot of the time, do trial and error and discover what works and what doesn't.
    I'm thankful thus far.

My advice is to set goals, realistic goals. Don't think you are going to become and internet success overnight. It takes time and a lot of hard work, but stick with it man.

I am totally agree with you. To achieve anything you only need to go through a systematic manner. Only dreaming is not work for you. After that you have to put efforts to get that dream true.

Frankly speaking I also have dream to earn more and more side by side and I joined the WF to learn and plan first those things so that I can start in a right manner.

    Hi,

I know this goes against all common and reasonable goal setting teachings, however I "expected" nothing. In hindsight had I had some expectations and goals I probably would be on EZ street by now.

From my first accidental $29.95 sale (It was an ebook that came for free to me from my first hosting company, I uploaded the sales page and someone accidently found it and bought it.) from my eBay yo-yo sales to my modest CookieCutter BootCamp profits, ClickBank checks and my WSOs I look in wonderment and great surprise.

It still makes me "jump" when I get the notice from paypal that I've got cash. This IM thing is wonderful.

      LOL,

It's really hard not to make some money. Now, millions, still working on that.

My expectations now are to make a difference in my niche. I am developing a membership site which has very high cometiion. What is going to set me apart is that I am actually taking my time to develop my website so it sticks out from all of the others that are not as good as mine is going to be. I might have high expectations, but that's just me. I am looking to succeed and by using the information from this wonderful forum I know I will.

Best of luck money2k! Let us know how it works out. People get intimidated by the level of comp but if you believe in your system then the sky's the limit.

Thanks. Competition is a good thing I believe. With competition it means there is a demand. You just have to add benefits and value over your competiion to stick out of the crowd. I am hoping to accomplish this.

I was actually the opposite of many...I believed we'd make $100 at best. My husband was more of a dreamer...luckily! Our dreams came true!

I've always started with a realistic goal. I figured, I'm not ever going to hit any highly ambitious numbers if I can't reach the realistic ones. So it's just about taking one step at a time. I too would like to hit £2000 per month.

My goal with IM is just to be able to have enough money to live modestly and be able to cook whatever I want without having to worry about breaking the bank.

For me, it's more important to be able to pursue my passions than to have a particular monthly income (although it would be naive for me to say that money can't help you along).

    So far so good!

I set my goals a little differently. I think of what I want to accomplish first, it could be an ebook, a newsletter, a new web site, a training course, whatever, then I decide when I want to get there and what steps I need to take. Then I do it.

I don't really set specific monetary goals, that's just a detail and one that I have no control over, I'm just happy to earn the most that each idea brings in.

You don't even wanna know how bad my plans were. I was about to make a gazillion dollars but after 1 and a half year I realized that I need to exhale out all the hot air and be more realistic.

I then sat down and made up my business plan and also a really really easy to achieve goal. It was not 1 month passed that day and I reached my goal. But still I sometimes get into my habbit of trying to go a 100 things at once and wanting to make a trillion dollars in a night but now I have the formula for success and I also have the motivational force needed to push my emotions down.

I was hoping to make $50 to $100 a week writing articles for magazines etc and submitting them online.

I got started long before there were so many information products to help you and things really were more difficult then.

I passed that goal many many years ago and I'm always amazed when I think of the fact that I make such a nice living from something that didn't even exist when I left school (the internet).

      One other thing about expectations.

The point came where I had no other income and I HAD to make a living with my internet marketing skills.

It was amazing how resourceful and motivated I became when it was create an income or starve.

There's a big difference between fantasizing about making $1,000,000 a year in internet marketing and knowing you have to make $x this week to pay the bills.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

Ha ha. Withing first 3 months I thought I will be making at least 100$ a day in the next 2 months or so. Needless to say I didn't, but I didn't lose my motivation either. I kept digging it until I hit the gold spot

I've had quite massive goals and expectations and never reached any of them... but when it comes down to it I'm very happy reaching for the stars and hitting the moon, and I doubt that anyone has ever made a million from thinking small and trying to earn a few bucks

Ahh man, I discovered IM when I was 18. I am sure you can imagine how
hyped and pumped I was. I saw some youtube videos where people where
showing their clickbank accounts, adsense checks and that is how I
    discovered it.

And I just thought "Wow, I am going to make a killing and bank hard next
month.Turned out that I didn't even know how to buy a domain and what
    a host is.

1 and a half year of hard work and a lot of learning finally brought success.
